Flash tutorial?

Post by jorgy »

Okay, I'm probably the only one around here who hasn't used flash before, but I'm working on a project that will most likely be better suited to flash than Moho.

I am creating a slideshow with music, with various images and text fading in and out, moving around, etc. during the music. I tried this with moho, but because it renders it frame by frame, the file sizes are too large for distribution over the internet.

So my question is this: I need to get up-to-speed quickly in flash. Does anyone have a good reference, or even a specific tutorial for doing slide shows? Thanks!

The tutorials that come with Flash are probably the best place to start. Last I checked (granted that was about with version 4) they covered pretty nicely all the basics of animation.

Go to www.Flashkit.com. Search the database for sample that do something close to what you what to do and download the .fla file. Look at how they did it and you should have a good start.

As for your poll... I'm guessing Flash already had the market and Adobe just didn't really want the headache. The dot com crash probably didn't help matters. That and I'm guessing that aside from Photoshop, Flash is probably one the most pirated pieces of software out there, not much of an incentive to become a competitor.

It's unfortunate, too. Live Motion had a much better animation system where you could key individual attributes, much like Moho and After Effects.

From beginners to advanced level, a great resource: www.actionscript.org.
Anyway, if you just need to do symbol tweening, Flash help may be enough.
Greetings.
