Storyboarding software

Greetings all.

Recently saw a reference to another couple of free storyboarding apps:

Directors Board 2, for Windows and Macs. Apparently a cut-down version of the commercial Directors NoteBook, see link on same page. I haven't tried it yet myself. About a 20 MB download. May only be available for a limited time.

Storyboard 1.0, by Main Publishers (can't get through to their website at the moment, so here's the link to the SoftLookup entry. Warning: popup ads and plenty of on-page ads at the SoftLookup link). Windows only, it seems. Purely from the description, it seems a little more limited than other storyboarding apps.

Also:
You may have seen this one before, it's a reasonably-featured free storyboard program for Mac and Windows that's been around for a while: Storyboard Pro from Atomic Learning. See also the tutorial links (Quicktime format) on the same page.

Regards, Myles.

I have used Directors Board on the Mac, and it does a nice job. It has no drawing tools though, so you have to draw your images for each frame in another program (I've used Painter and Expression for this) and export them as JPEG or PNG and bring them into Directors Board. You can then add the commentary and print out the storyboard. It makes a nice professional looking presentation for a client.

I'm going to try out Storyboard Pro and see how it compares.

thanks for the links.
Jack

The newer versions of the open-source scriptwriting app, Celtx, have a story boarding module built-in. The app can be downloaded and used for free under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

Celtx is very nice - I use to keep all of my notes and pictures and ideas for a project all together. I haven't written a script in it yet, but it looks very easy to do.

Celtx rules!!!!

I just downloaded it and have been playing around with the sample project. It really is amazing and powerful.

They seem to have everything covered. The script writing tools are great. I was using a paid application for this and it didn't come close. Just for the script formating alone it's worth it.

The fact that it looks and runs beautifully on my Mac is definitely a huge bonus.
