Blender (2d Add-on Released)
There is a guy who is developing a really cool 2d animation addon for Blender. It allows the user to import photoshop files directly into Blender and rig them like spine2D. The addon hasn't been released yet, but the developer says that he's close to release.

Re: Blender (awesome addon)
So this is basically what Moho did 10 years ago?
Re: Blender (awesome addon)
Moho was a full 3d program 10 years ago?
Re: Blender (awesome addon)
LOL no. I am talking about the IK rigging in 2d in blender. I am looking forward to trying this when he releases it.dkwroot wrote:Moho was a full 3d program 10 years ago?
Re: Blender (awesome addon)
I think target bones were only recently added to Anime Studio. This addon does more than that. If you look closely, you'll see that he triangulated the hand mesh like spine2d does. If you couple this with a hook modifier, you can do mesh warping and achieve crazy effects like this: http://i.imgur.com/vJ1DE6J.gif
What I'm mostly excited about is that since Blender is a full 3d program, you can order layers in true 3d space. This is a huge limitation for AS. You can also directly draw raster images in Blender allowing the user you draw new objects right in the viewport as needed.
That being said, I'm eager to get my hands on the JSON files. I'm going to look through his code and see if I can improve it so that the addon will support switch layers.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.
Re: Blender (awesome addon)
He made an update video. He is being very ambitious for a single man project.

Cutout Animation Tool v1 Alpha for Blender is released!

A Photoshop exporter script is included to export your 2d character directly into Blender.
Obviously you can animate your 2d characters for regular animation productions as well with this addon.
The armature is simple to setup, and even weight painting is supported for full control over how the armature affects elements. All the animation tools in Blender, such as a dope sheet and full animation curves can be used to animate with.
Supported features for game export
The animation is exported to a JSON file. The addon and Blender are free, which would be a great alternative to both Spline and Spriter. A Godot game engine importer is already available.

- multiple animations per character (running, standing, jumping, etc.)
- rotation for elements
- scale deformations for elements
- opacity/alpha for elements
- z-depth control for elements
- tiling
- Elements in your character can consist of one or more frames. This allows you to switch out parts for different ones (for example, blinking eyes, feet in various states, depending on the animation, or the animation frame.

That is extremely interesting! I love being able to paint in your own bone weight map over a 2D mesh outline for more precise manipulation of the Sprite parts. Thanks for posting and please keep us updated!

Re: Blender (2d Add-on Released)
This is a wonderful addon for blender. Just wish your export plugin would work with medibang pro

Re: Blender (2d Add-on Released)
The export plugin for Photoshop is nice, but it is not required to create characters in Blender. Just export your layers individually, and reconstruct the character in Blender. If your drawing application support a way to export individual layers or layer groups, it will save you some time. Unfortunately, I could not find such a feature in Mediabang Pro. Krita has that option, though.KeeCoyote wrote:This is a wonderful addon for blender. Just wish your export plugin would work with medibang pro
PS I checked out Mediabang pro - while okay, I think it is a bit too limited in regards to painting. I prefer Krita myself nowadays.
Re: Blender (2d Add-on Released)
Well I can export my pictures and folders as photoshop file. It's just that the importer addon in it says you have to put it in a photoshop folder. I can export all my folders and groups into ASP just by exporting it as a photoshop file to it.
Re: Blender (2d Add-on Released)
Is there a way to export a .atlas file with this? I did a quick test and didn't find a way. Game Maker Studio needs the .atlas file to tell it how the textures are packed. If it can, it would save me a lot of time/money. I wish anime studio could export to this format. :/
