I recently received Sketchbook Pro and I'm really impressed by it. If any of you guys do concept art for games or toons, I'd suggest giving it a try. You can buy it or lease a subscription which are both half off until Jan 2nd.
You can also just download the free version, if you create an account you can use the "essentials" version for free.
I'm currently using the subscription version which I got for 12 dollars for the entire year. It's pretty cool, because I can use the same account to load the program onto multiple machines. In my option, this is how you do subscription services right. So anyway, with my subscription I've got the pro version on my desktop, laptop and my tablet which is awesome. (I got a Asus VivoTab Note for xmas and it runs the pro version nicely )
The flipbook feature is also really cool as it gives a very easy way to prototype animations in sketching sessions.

Re: Sketchbook Pro
I don't buy any subscription software. I would rather buy it for 210 and know that it is mine.
I just downloaded paint tool SAI - under 50 dollars.

Pencil is a nice simple free program for straight ahead animation.

There is two versions, I like the older one.

You CAN buy it. You can purchase the program outright and own it for 60 dollars or you can choose to lease it. I bought a copy when it was on sale for half off and got it for 30 dollars. The Christmas sale even came with a 1 year free subscription to the program, which is how I put it on my laptop and tablet.

Nowadays I use Krita for my concept work: open source, and the functionality is impressive.
The developers are working on animation support as well. Great painting tools, an open, receptive, community, and no subscription model in sight: what more do you need?

And it even received the ImagineFX Artist Choice Award today!!!

I love Krita and use it on my desktop all the time. I tried to run it on my vivotab, but it wasn't well optimized for tablets and didn't have touch support. Hopefully it'll improve more over 2015.herbert123 wrote:Nowadays I use Krita for my concept work: open source, and the functionality is impressive.

I searched their website but could not find a way to buy it, can you please show me the right direction?

The sale is over, so the price is back to 65 dollars.
Re: Sketchbook Pro
The website seems to push for subscriptions more than out right sales. I don't mind that a software has a subscription along with a puerility license. The 'subscription only' pisses me off. It is a way to generate income with out doing any improvements to the software.dkwroot wrote:You CAN buy it.
