1.8 (April 12, 2005)
VIZup used to be Shareware but is from April 12, 2005 released as Freeware!
So Vizup is freeware.
Accutrans is shareware -true- but it is non-crippled fully functioning and the author asks that you register it after a trial period -
but it is fully functional.
Tatoo, my previous post, has a commercial version and a
fully functioning free version.
I'm sure I could have goofed or misread somewhere but in looking back at my posts I don't see it. Everything is either freeware, or donationware. Rather than clog this thread if you feel I missed something please PM me.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. A pretty extensive list of Open Source software. Covers many topics from business to graphics. Doesn't have direct links to homepages, but it'll at least give you names of programs.

There is a web page where you collect free alternatives to proprietary software.
It is very easy to find the free software that cover the same proprietary application. You can search by proprietary app or by free app.
Most of them are for linux platform but there are windows versions also.

Viscosity is deadware no longer supported or even sold. But If you work with ping files and find yourself clearing the white background that sometimes you get. This program is a god send in the demo mode to change sequnced ping's backgrounds to alpha.

Out of curiosity I followed up on this tip and found the xara website out of commission--not surprising for software that is out of print.

OK, well the Xara folks were at least perfectly clear and forthcoming about the kinds of animation the Extreme Pro package does and does not support.... ****for Flash export.****
Here are excerpts from the help file:
...the types of shape tweening supported by Flash that can be used between key frames is limited to six core transforms:
Move—you can move objects from one position to another.
Scale—you can enlarge or reduce shapes in size.
Squash or skew—you can squash or skew shapes.
Rotate—you can rotate objects.
Transparency—you can adjust the overall (flat) transparency of the object.
Color transform—you can change the fill (flat) color of objects.
....One thing that isn’t possible is to change the shape of an object between key frames [when building for Flash export].
Important: tweening is not like the Blend tool, which can 'morph' from one shape to another. To stress the point again: the only things you can do to shapes, text and photos in Flash animations are the six core transform types listed above.
The Blend tool apparently supports morphing of either bitmaps or vectors. I assume that one could export a Xara animation in animated GIF format. It also exports PNGs with full alpha channel, so the power user might be able to generate cinema-quality animation with this...?

I don't know what you mean -- the website is functioning normally, and the software isn't out of print (whatever that means for software).
I've used Xara Xtreme for some time -- it is a great drawing package. I must say that the Flash animation examples shown on the Xara website are pretty rudimentary -- not impressive enough to persuade me to upgrade, anyway...
