The animations in those period were made for television on a very limited budget, which shows. It was the time of the Saturdaymorning cartoons, when almost everybody thought animation was in decline and soon to be forgotten. How wrong those people were...

This clip reminded me of The Marvel Comics animations (The Amazing Hulk, Spiderman). Awful to look at now, especially if you have seen their modern counterparts, made with a much bigger budget. It also reminded me of those SF life action movies of the 50s.

A nice animation in the oldschool SF movies style is the animation Robot Bastard, which I recommend to watch as a comparison:

Rashead ,have you seen the Great Mazinger ? You can't compare it with the semi animation of the marvel cartoon.
Even the older Mazinger z, with his low low budget was much better.

After the 80's, animation WAS in a decline. This is apparent by the fact that kids' cartoons today SUCK. It's not so much a matter of having bigger budgets to make cartoons.. in a way it's the opposite. Nobody got a bigger budget, it just became cheaper to make half-assed cartoons.

Also, you totally can't compare this era of animation with cartoons like the 60's versions of The Incredible Hulk, or Spiderman. Infact, you can't even compare those two, because they were so drastically different.

None of your guys have see the original tiger mask cartoon. While the animation was poor ( the carton was produced between 1969 -1971) but the original style , the violence, the drama are a classic.

I do prefer Great Mazinger, the story, the characters even the animation is better then the older Mazinger Z.
the italian dubbing (based on the spanish version I guess) was great , too.

Another masterpiece from the past, Jeeg Robot

Tiger Mask the original .

http://www.youtube.com/?v=_W4k6vatsUM

they done a bad sequel ,mixing the tiger mask character with Batman .

the drawing and animation stile of the first series was very original and impressive: you can love it or hate it.

The second was your standard 80 anime drawing

Love the sketchy style, and some of the animation is really good.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
