video format / size for movie import
I am using Moho 12.5 - what is the ideal video format / size for movie import?
I have tried different formats / sizes / threads on the subject - it seems that Moho is very fussy about the kind of video it will accept, otherwise presenting a square and a question mark to the user... that is certainly what I am getting.
I don't need the video quality to be good or anything, just using it for reference.
But cannot find a format / size that Moho will accept
Any thoughts would be appreciated...

What are your system specs? If you let us know, someone with a similar setup may be able to assist.
Moho 14.1 » Win 11 Pro 64GB » NVIDIA GTX 1080ti 11GB

Thanks.
Actually, mp4s have not worked for me at all - including very low res, small filed ones.
Here are the system specs:
OSX CATALINA
PROCESSOR 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
MEMORY 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
GRAPHICS AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Re: video format / size for movie import
I have a similar set up to you:
MacOS Catalina
2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB
I've tried importing mp4 and Quicktime and I get the same plain grey rectangle. Converting the video to a PNG sequence works and it imports ok, BUT Moho then crashes either on playback or if you try to scroll through the timeline.
I have some other software which I need for work that is Windows only, so I have Windows 10 set up in Parallels. Running the Windows version of Moho 12.5 in that virtual machine is generally a better experience than running it natively on MacOS. I just imported the same MP4, Quicktime and PNG sequence and all three imported okay and played okay. It's kind of a drastic solution if you don't need Windows for anything else, but it works for me.

Thanks.
Yes, I am just using image sequences at the moment, in lieu of video.
All I can find by Googling the issue, is people talking about the same problem 4-5 years ago...

Re: video format / size for movie import
Have you been able to get the image sequence working without crashing?
Mac support for Moho has been flakey for a while. Even v13 isn't officially supported on Catalina. When I queried this with Smith Micro their reply was:
"Thank you for contacting Support. Officially Moho 13 does not support the latest Mac OS due to certification requirements. There are no other reported issues related to the newer OS from users that have opted to use the software on the newer Mac OS."

Re: video format / size for movie import
Wow.
Taking everything I have experienced into account, together with that comment from support, it just seems they don't really offer a fully compatible version for Mac.
No - it doesn't crash for me, with the image sequence instead of the video - so it's really all I can do at the moment.

Not sure why you wouldn't on a Mac, but do you have Quicktime installed?

Re: video format / size for movie import
Well, it worked for me in all versions of Moho over the years, so your experience is strange. It doesn't depend on dimensions, I've successfully incorporated videos 10.000 pixels wide in Moho.
Do the same videos play in Quicktime player? If so, they should play in Moho as well. I've only noticed that mp4 from the web tend to not play in Moho, whereas mp4 from my camcorder do. In that case try and use Quicktime to convert from mp4 to mov. If that doesn't work, try VLC for conversion.

Re: video format / size for movie import
I'm not the original poster, but I'm interested in this problem.
MacOS Catalina comes with QuickTime 10.5 installed which is a 64 bit app. Does Moho rely on QuickTime 7 by any chance? That's a 32bit app which can't be installed on Catalina.

No, Moho works perfectly with 64bit QT here.

If available, try File>Relaunch in 32-bit Mode
If not available or doesn't work, you may be out of luck: https://www.macworld.com/article/356270 ... s-why.html

Re: video format / size for movie import
Out of curiosity I just tried it with the demo of Moho 13 - .mp4 imports and plays fine, .mov imports okay but playback is jittery.
So definitely not a QuickTime problem.

Miro is great, I used it couple of times, but I would rather advise using free online converter, Converter365 for example. You do not need to download any program and it is more simple.DK wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:43 pm mp4's are good. Use this free converter.
