switch layers

I am newbie to Anime studio. I am working with Anime Studio Pro 9.6 I purchased a farm bundle. its has a Barn scene, piggy,milky,turkey, and chicks
I have no problem animating them when I move a bone and change the frame, my key frame dot shows up. However, if I try to use switch layer, like moving the eyes, I advance the frame, right click on switch layer, let's say eye's down. The eyes move, but no key frame dot appears. Please help. So , when I play it back, nothing has saved.

The switch layer is a group that can change from one layer to another. At the top is the folder and the layers are all under it. If you click on the folder it will give you choices of what layer is active. Click on a different layer in the choices to change the active layer. If you just click on the layer in the folder nothing will happen.

AS9 had smart bones, so maybe the switches are setup on those.
