How to become a beta-tester?

Post by Stan »

We all know that a bunch of the forum members are beta-testers. I would like to become one too. Is there any resource available how the beta-testing program works? How to become a beta-tester? What is expected from a beta-tester, is there some kind of 'standard' bug-tracking mechanism (Bugzilla, JIRA, etc.)?

If anybody knows any resources, please point me to them.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

The beta program is a secret society of animation masters. Just kidding.

You get asked to join. Sometimes it is from how much you are contributing on the forum. Other times it is because you have showed up at an event where Anime Studio is and show those who are working there that you know the program backwards and forwards.

All beta testers sign a nondisclosure agreement and can not discuss any of beta features with anyone other than beta testers what will be in the next release.

Thank you for your response, Dale. I was hoping that someone else have something to add, but I guess that's it. Well, it's been a week now, and looks like I don't have a chance to join you guys. :(

I think your best chance is to be active around here and show an existing knowledge of the software and/or animation in general... this is in no way an official response - I've no idea what the criteria actually is, but doing the above will no doubt improve your chances!

I don't think there is any official criteria. I assume that they have a general limit of how many beta testers they will have at one time. So that in it self makes it hard to become a beta tester. My personal advice is to Wow the people at Smith Micro. Learn the software and help others on the forum. If you get the chance to go to a event where they are, show them some cool stuff you did with the software. Simply asking to become a beta tester wont cut it.

And as I said before, all beta testers sign a nondisclosure agreement. So no one will go into any details on the beta testing program at Smith Micro.

I had like a thousand posts and was running my blog and Youtube channel for years before I became a tester, it is all about getting involved with the community and giving back to it, chowing that you are committed to Anime Studio and its development, and as previously said, you are asked to become a member!
