I've selected Animated Shape Order on all three vector layers (just geometric shapes I'm testing). I have Allow Animated Layer Effects checked. I've checked on Sort Layers by Depth. Have created shapes from all three vector layers.
When I hit shift arrow keys, nothing. Draw: raise shape or lower shape, nothing.
I've read the tutorial and manual. Did I miss something?
How the heck does this feature work??

you don't need sort by depth or layer effects. Shape order only needs to be enabled on a parent group or bone layer - put the 3 layers inside a group or layer and enable the shape order on that parent - then a key will be created on the parent layer when you reorder them on the timeline (not frame 0)

Figured it out, thanks Funksmaname!
I looked at the parent layer on the timeline and saw the special track assigned to it (like you indicated) and it all made sense. I manually moved the layer up or down in the layers palette (I thought it would be an automatic movement once you hit shift-arrow) but that's ok. It works!

It's working fine - just get off frame 0.

Re: Animated shape ordering not working in 11
crossed post glad you figured it out.
If you have the shapes on a single vector layer with 'animated shape order' ticked, it works more like you expect - shift cursor shape movement saves the stack order (off frame 0)
