Error: Selected audio file is not supported

I have just installed the trial version of AnimeStudio 9.2 and am working my way through the tutorials. I'm loving it! But I have reached tutorial 5.1 on lip syncing and can't import the audio file MaryLamb-Man.wav: The selected audio file is not supported.

I have searched this forum and found a few similar problems and tried the suggestions I could understand:
  • converted to a lower bitrate
  • converted to mp3
  • tried several other audio files
  • recorded my own wav and mp3 files
  • checked to make sure my system has the right codecs -- all the above files play perfectly in Windows Media Player and Quicktime
I'm stumped. Can anyone help?

Tech details:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Anime Studio 9.2 32-bit (trial version)

Maybe a restriction in the Debut version could by widely wrong here as I am using the full version.

I'm still having problems with this. AS tech support has been trying but has not come up with the solution. Can anyone here suggest a solution?

It sounds like that's just a limitation to the demo mode. You should be fine if you decide to purchase. Below is a clip from the manual. It does sound odd though that there would be a problem importing a .wav from the tutorial folder though. You may want to ask tech support if it's the demo mode that is stopping the import from the tutorial folder.
If you haven’t purchased a copy of Anime Studio, then the
program will be running in demo mode. While in demo mode,
Anime Studio still allows you access to all features of the
program. Anything you can do in the full version you can do in
the demo. Also, any files you create with the demo version of
Anime Studio will still work fine if you purchase the full version.

The demo version has just three limitations: First, you can only
run the demo version of Anime Studio for 30 days. Second,
you cannot import any external file formats including images
and movies. Third, you cannot export your animations to other
formats (QuickTime, AVI, Flash, etc.).

Thanks so much for your suggestion. I did start in demo mode but quickly purchased the real product. I can import movies and images, and I can export to avi and swf. So demo mode doesn't appear to be the problem.

Just retried this.
1. Start with a fresh layer.
2. Import Audio File from :Anime Studio Pro/Tutorials/5-Animation/MaryLamb-Man.wav
3. Look on the Timeline and play to confirm okay.
4. Import a mouth any for example.
5. Doubleclick Mouth in layer column on right.
6. Select Switch and choose audio file MaryLamb-Man.wav and press Apply.
7. Check on Timeline everything working okay.
8. If failed return to Mouth in layer column repeat above 5 6 7
9 Make sure the Mouth and Audio start at O for them to sync correctly.

Hope this helps

Did you ever tested with any other soundfiles?

I wish it did, but it fails at step 2. I can't import marylamb-man.wav or any other audio file.

Yes, with the files provided by Anime Studio and with my own files, both WAV and MP3. I can even record sounds within AS and play them back with the sound recorded, but I can't save them, so the minute I close the sound recorder, they are gone.

A simple question: Do the file name have special chars like àèìòù?
Those blocks ASP from reading it!

No, no special characters. I can't even import the marylamb-man file that comes with the tutorials.

You mentioned you can select the file normally from the tutorial folder without ASP. Therefore the problem is not Windows issue otherwise the file would be greyed out or not visible for selection. Are you able to get information of the file displayed when in ASP mode or does this look faded like protected files? Just curious is there an issue with the 64bit version?

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but I'll do my best to answer. First, let me say that all these audio files work perfectly outside of ASD (I have Debut, not Pro). I can play them in Windows Media Player and Quicktime with no problems.

When I try to import them into an animation, I use File ... Import ... Audio File ... . The normal Windows Open File dialog appears, and the audio files are shown as normal, not grayed out. I can actually listen to the audio files within the dialog -- they work fine there. Then I select an audio file, MP3 or WAV, and click Open. That's when I get the message: The selected audio file is not supported.

I have also tried adding an audio layer with the same result. Interestingly, I can add sounds from the Content Library. I can also record and play back sounds with the built in audio recorder, but I can't save them or add them to my animation. Weird, huh?

There might be a 32-bit / 64-bit problem. I am using Win 7 64-bit but my ASD is 32-bit. I have written to the Smith-Micro tech support guy to ask about that. But surely I'm not the only one using this setup.

Just for kicks, render, lets say 8 seconds and see if it comes out ok. Debut does have a limit on the length of the animation, something like 3k frames.
