turning photos into vector graphics?
does anyone know of any examples where real photos were used and then turned into vector based illustrations and colored for background elements in a cartoon made with Anime studio Pro? Things like trees, barns, weeds, skies, or anything else for background/foreground details. I am interested to see if this works well.

Have you got the right link? That doesn't look like it was vectorized at all.InfoCentral wrote:I looks like that is what was done with this short vid.
Personally, I never vectorize from photos, I always trace over them to get the "feel" of it. Most vectorization leaves too many unnecessary points that slow everything down or complicate the image so much that you can't break the parts into layers.
Say for example you want to to use an image with a sky, and you want to have a bird flying behind the trees etc but in front of the sky. You'd need to break the vectorized image apart to separate the trees from the sky. By tracing the trees, you can get a perfect separation.
If you don't want to draw, use bitmaps and Photoshop's Magic Wand tool. IMHO this looks best.
