"Anime Studio" - a misleading name!

Hi (and sorry for my english),

last year I was looking for programs like "Anime Studio". In many lists of such programs I saw "Anime Studio" but I disregarded it. Why? I was looking for a program to create animated cartoons and not to create simple anime clips (I thought). But now I am know (It was pure chance), that "Anime Studio" is NOT a studio to create japanese anime only. What dopey PR man (or woman) has selected this confusing name???!! I think you would get more users, if you change the name of the program! I heared, the old name of the program was "Moho". That is thousend times better then the simple, uninspired and confusing "Anime Studio"....

However, I love this tool!

We have had this discussion a thousand of times, sorry, but I think there is nothing more to add about the name, at least by me.
Anyway, I think AS animations and velocity to create animations talk by them selves. In Chile, for example, It has became the principal 2d animation software in many studios, almost totally displacing Flash. Most of the people get shock with the power they doesn't expect on a 2d software.
I remember when it was Moho it was very hard to convince the clients and studios that it was an excellent tool. I know it's not a question of name, but when E-frontier, and then SmithMicro, got Moho and transformed it to AS, they push it to the top and now anybody which work with animation knows about which software we are talking about.
We could not agree with the name, but we can't say the all commercial campaign (which included the change of name) has been very useful to remove Moho from anonymity and make it compete in the big leagues.

I'm glad you got Anime Studio, even when you don't like the name. For me that's means there is something more working, not just a name.

I also liked Moho. Anime Studio, in my mind, puts it into a misrepresentative pigeon-hole.

Many people think this software is for making anime because of its name but it can be used to make cartoons and other stuffs.
AS is an american product isnt it? i think its name should be different, Moho was ok.

I agree, Moho was a much better name. It's easier to say and, well, just sounds more like the animation software it is to me. :D

Anime conjurs up images of jerky stylised grotesque characters and animation for me. Sorry to those who are big fans - it's just my taste (or lack of maybe). I can appreciate some Miyazaki though and thought Howls Moving Castle was good but other than that....

I thought it was confusing too (esp when I was looking into an app called Moho ;) after finding a trial sitting on my hard drive).

I would have preferred 'anim-studio' or 'animation studio', I can understand why they chose the anime keyword though. A great app none the less. 8)

It's funny, everyone is always talking about how much better the name Moho is than Anime Studio. I actually passed up the program years ago when it was called Moho. I saw the name and I saw some images of cartoons made in Moho. My impression was that it couldn't be used to make a "real" cartoon. So I did a trial of toon boom and gave up on the whole idea because toon boom was hard to use.

A few years later I discovered Anime Studio, and saw some more impressive examples, and I was immediately convinced. How silly did I feel to discover that it had been Moho all along! Now the name Moho has grown on me. But I don't think that the marketing before reflected the possibilities of the software. Although I agree that the reference to "anime" pigeon holes it. Kay. Now I'm just rambling.

I have to admit that the fist time I saw Anime Studio on the shelf I was kind of not sure what it was. But since I got interested in trying to animate and there isn't really any other software out that you can just pick up for 40 bucks and create some awesome stuff; I bought. I am now hooked on this software but it wasn't the name that did it, it was the lack of competition on the shelf.
