Voice Synthetizer
Someone knows a good Voice Syntetizing software, possibly free?
I have to do the dialogs for my animation, but I can't find someone who will record the audio tracks I need.
So I tought to try some Voice synthetizers, but no one are good for me.
I've also tried the native Microsoft XP Speech Engine 5 with the TruVoices, they are very good but I can't find the Italian, Spanish and Britannic English version...

Hey, your English is better than our ... (insert language here).
Have you looked at:

Yes, the Cepstral voices are great but there are only one italian voice and it costs very much...
Too expensive for me...
In the meanwhile I've found two little applications.
One is made by Screaming Bee, it's called MorphVox.
The program change the pitch, the speed and some time the mood of a recorded voice using a software filter. The voice changes pretty well, but with Microsoft Sam it still robotic.
The other one are by Microsoft itself, it's called TalkIt (or TalkAny, I didn't know wich are the right name...) and the voices are very good, but doesn't exists any Italian version of it, only English and Spanish...
Some one knows a similar programs?

Festival is free IIRC.
http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/
It has an Italian module here:
http://www.freaknet.org/alpt/src/xchestival/
That last one it is under linux I think but festival works under Winodws and Mac OS

Uhm... Festival... Great voices, also simulate emotions...
But sounds a little complicated to me...
I'm not very good on C++ or Cygne stuff...
Someone can put together all the necessary parts and make a .ZIP file ready to use?
I think it can be useful for all the animators who visit the forum...

Try Voice Morpher:

Not free, but better than Screaming Bee and allows you to record your own voice.

You can get the same effects, from what I have seen, from Audacity and it is free.

I use BALABOLKA. It's not great but it's the best free voice synth that I've ever found, and you can download a bucketload of additional voices for it which, when tweaked, are at least understandable. But for really good voice synthesis you'll have to pay.

If you've installed it, you'll see that you can modify pitch and rate as well as loading a wide range of voices .... although only about 4 or 5 are actually much use for truly understandable speech.Imago wrote:You told about tweaks... What do you mean? The voices can be modified someway?
If you REALLY want to tweak things, look at the PROPERTIES button for the voices. It's to the right of the Rate and Pitch sliders. This takes you into a PRONUNCIATION EDITOR where you can play with the pronunciation of indiviidual words - it's a bit like playing with phonetics in code form. There is a list of 'Phonemes supported by this speech synthesizer'. If you get into this, you'll be playing for hours.
One tip - always make sure you keep all the text highlighted when you export to wav. It's easy to end up converting just a single word.
Also, it pays to break text into new lines or to use commas and full stops to play with the way Balabolka processes text into speech. Some of the alternative skins are also nice but, of course, they don't affect the way the program works.
For an example of Balabolka in use by myself, try this ...

For another example by someone else (not especially politically correct, but good voices), try this ...

If you search for Balabolka in Youtube, you'll find other examples.

Someone knows something about this demo?
The voices are good, but I can't find nothing about the copyright.
Can I record the output and use it in my projects or it's under copyright, so I have to pay?

If you do some experimenting with this, I would love to hear the result. When I did my "Legend of Zahur" cartoon, I used the internal Mac voice synth. It comes with every Mac, but I doubt it is good enough for what it seems you are attempting.
