toggle lock Z in manipulate layer tool

Post by slowtiger »

Since this problem pops up again and again (today: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=29042), I wonder why we can't add a little button to the Manipulate Layer tool to prevent unwanted changes in Z value which cause a lot of headaches to everybody, especially for beginners.

it's in both layer and camera translate that the mouse x/y motion is (mathematically correctly I believe) interpreted as having some motion in z if the camera has been panned and/or tilted but IMO it's entirely counterintuitive. Frankly, unless you've moved the workspace view (when you've made a clear choice that the screen isn't squarely x/y) I'd keep mouse x/y as just that and leave it to the user to move in z.
