Anime Studio for mobile devices??

This is for anyone from smith micro or the development team working on AS. I'm pretty sure I read something about this before but is there any talk about making anime studio available for mobile devices like the iPad? I'm just asking because there are so many high end programs now that have comporable companion programs that allow users to create projects to be used on multiple platforms. I personally use photoshop touch and Idraw when I'm out and about to create compositions and artwork and then can export my work to be used in photoshop and illustrator when I'm at home using my computer. Also, I'm amazed at what hefty programs can be used on the iPad like iMovie and garageband which leads me to believe that a program like AS could have a really nice mobile version. I know some of the technology could translate to mobile devices because I recently downloaded an application called "Plastic animation studio" for free that allows you to rig characters with bones and do puppet animation just like Anime Studio. With the combination of draw and this Plastic Anime Studio you can literally have a VERY stripped down version of AS that with the purchase of IDraw for around $10.00. I'm sure there are a great deal of technical issues you would have to deal with in making AS mobile but if you guys are really REALLY wanting to compete with Adobe and flash you should concider getting into the mobile game and exposing people to animation software on mobile devices first. Yes, there are some animation programs that are "meh, o.k." in the market now but absolutely nothing that compares to Anime Studio. I've said a hundred times before, AS is the best animation software in both in price and innovation. I would love to see it reach the masses and be in the forefront ahead of programs like FLASH and Toon Boom. I work at a university and teachers are very excited to use mobile devices in the classroom. I can't think of anything that would appeal to students more than learning how to animate with AS in the classroom on a mobile device. Anyway, just something to think about. Be the first and be the best so others can follow your lead.

Just as a side note, here are the two programs I'm talking about. Plastic animation studio and IDraw. Two pretty amazing programs that I use on my iPad. Great fun for doing very BASIC animation stuff.

Also, if you're into creating and importing bastardized artwork "Procreate" is Aaaa Maaeee Zing!!! I think it's better than photoshop touch or any other mobile painting application for that matter. This video of the sample artwork pieces being made on the iPad that is used as a demo file. Check it out!

Yet another example that animation programs can run and create animation on a mobile device! This program (photopuppet) even uses a type of switch layers and looping! Pretty awesome if you ask me! Any thoughts on this??? anyone?????

I hate to make more work for the Smith Micro team, and I have heard how difficult it is to develop for Apple, but I too would love to see an iPad version of Anime Studio, even if it was a "reduced feature" version. I've been thinking about using some sort of virtualization software to run Anime Studio on the iPad. There's a new app for iPad that allows running your desktop software virtually that looks pretty cool.

It would be cool to be able to "play back" animations on the iPad without having to render.

p.s.
Just an FYI for those with an iPad. I just installed the new free apps from Adobe, line and sketch. These are really cool sketch apps. For the first time I feel like I can use my iPad as a "sketch pad". It has the natural feel for sketching I've been wanting. The best part is the apps are free. I plan to buy the "gizmos" that go with it. The stylus has pressure sensitivity by linking to the app and iPad via bluetooth.

One can always dream!!!! On a side note, if ANYONE from the AS development team reads this, one feature that would be utterly amazing and incredibly useful is using the same idea that photo puppet uses to view switch layers!!!! A visual tab that opens that you can scrub through poses! That would be especially helpful for people using a large amount of poses for mouths, hands or clothes! I already am using smart bones to cycle through switch layers quickly, which is fantastic and already a huge help but having a visual of all available artwork when clicking on a switch layer??? Too sweet! Just saying…. :)

I'd love to have AS on my Galaxy Note. The pressure sensitive pen is gorgeous to use, and I sketch a lot with it in front of the TV on Artflow

I've been looking for a good animation app to go alongside it, and not found anything really pro yet, so porting AS to Android would make a big splash.

I doubt seriously they have the resources for Android development, so... probably same for iOS even though it's sort of kind of like mac but not really. Didn't think of that before. Developing for iOS would actually be like developing for a whole new OS.

I think virtualization is probably the best way to go for short term. I am going to look into that some more.

The cool thing about virtualization is that it would work on any OS (iOS or Android).

Heyvern,

Do you think it would be possible to offer AS via cloud sharing someday? After you said virtualization it made me think of all the cool stuff people are using now. In particular the "Onlive game service. I read it's not doing to well business wise but I think they're switching over to a new business model in which they're going to focus more on apps. I'm not too tech savy but I know that this service enables high end games and apps to be used on less than powerful devices. Again, I don't know much about it but it seems that a lot of types of software will eventually go to cloud computing. Not that I'm in favor of it (f@$&ing Adobe) because it takes true ownership away from consumers but I think because it can be so heavily regulated and controlled by producers that it seems like that's the route most things are going. I don't like the idea of having "my" expensive software running on a super server in which if my service can be interrupted at any moment but for mobile apps and games I think cloud computing could really work. What are your thoughts about cloud computing?

Depends on whose cloud it is. :)

If it's your cloud you could do it now. For instance there is new software for iPad that allows you to run office apps on the iPad from your desktop computer. Basically you are using the same desktop versions but controlling them through the iPad.

My thought would be something similar, running Anime Studio on my iPad "through the cloud".

I think you need the CloudDesktopOnline. Try it and discover how your files sync and shared to a soaring experience. I have actually used this and gladly transformed the way my work was attained.

This is fairly new so you might not of heard it.

Animation Pro(IOS).It might seem generic in name and very close in name but it is pretty decent. It's less gimicky and more serious than some of the other similar apps.Anyway https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKRMLa ... kh-UCxhD8Q is their channel.

It does look like it is heavily influenced by Anime Pro/Moho even the tutorials but I have played around with it and it does have a lot of depth. It even has some subtle things like being able to blur objects on an individual level. It does seem to have a unique interface but if you follow the authors tutorials it's not that hard to get to grips with.

Guys, just buy a tablet pc already and leave the nice developers alone... ...
I'm ,only half joking.... there are so many windows tablets to chose from with way more power than ipads or android thingies... get a surface or something..
I'm writing this on an ancient ep 121 that has always supported pressure sensitivity, touch and Moho.
I've used moho on windows tablets since it was called 'moho', yes I mean the first time.
I know you are probably hopelessly addicted to apples but just suck it up, this has always been windows territory, so if you want to draw on a screen with a cpu and real os (without the cintiq), you know what to do....
This is not fanboy talk, it's just reality and practicality...
What I'm hoping for is a nice BIG tablet pc, though bigger that 13 , wouldn't a 17 inch artpad with a powerhouse cpu and a series 10 gpu be nice? Mmmm.

I absolutely agree! I used Procreate for a couple of ASP projects. It's way more fun to paint with than Photoshop, and I love the compactness and instant boot up of the iPad when I'm 'out of the office'. Compared to other iPad painting apps, Procreate's unique 'gesture-based' UI is completely uncluttered and easy to use. In fact, I would say it's by far the best UI I've worked with on a touch-screen device.

If you use Procreate, I recommend getting a stylus. I have both the original Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus and the later WICS2. I actually prefer the original one because the squishy tip feels more like a brush. The newer WICS2 has a smaller, hard tip...it's technically more accurate but I actually find the 'precision' makes it more fiddly for me. I know that sounds weird, just gotta use them both to see what I mean. Either one works well though and there are other non-Wacom stylii that work well too.

All said, I have to agree with Chucky: If you really want to run a full-blown Windows program on a tablet, you're much better off getting a Windows based tablet. I've been running Moho 12, AE, Photoshop, etc., on my Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 and it's by far my favorite platform for drawing and animating--I hardly ever use my desktop anymore. And the recent 'Multi-touch For Navigation Only' option added in 12.1, the touch UI in Moho is not only usable and it's actually fun to work with.

Before I got the Wacom computer, I used an HP tm2 tablet, which was an older gen Wacom based tablet PC. Even though the screen res was quite low, I still found it very useful for animating in ASP 9.5 - 11, compositing in AE or Fusion, and editing in Vegas Pro. The two shorts on our website (Scareplane and HLF) were mostly animated on this computer, in parks, diners, coffee shops, and public libraries around town. Without the convenience of mobility, I'd probably still be working on those projects. (Well, okay, not really...I still had deadlines to meet.) :P

Now, if they would just make Procreate for Windows...
