Export Camera Information into After Effects

Post by Whyman »

Hello LM,
One feature that would greatly enhance this already great creative
tool is the ability to export a project file usable within After Effects.
Similar in the way Cinema 4D exports the data. When you export
from Cinema 4D it saves out a .aep file that retains lighting and
camera coordiantes (including keyframes).

Thanks for your consideration.

I wrote a script that would export camera data from Moho, that you could then import into Maya, Xsi or 3DSmax. That in this thread:

Don't have anything to go direct to AE, but you can import the data into Maya, dump it right back out as a Maya project file with just the camera data, and import that into AE. I don't use AE very much, and haven't really looked into how make a direct importer, but the camera data is in a pretty generic text based format, so if you had the specs it probably wouldn't be that hard. A little roundabout, but it works.

<EDIT> Doing a wee bit of research. As I think about it, if you could post an example of how AE's text representation for camera data looks and I should be able to whip up a copy of the script to export in that format. Then you'd just have to paste in the keyframe data.

Thanks 7feet for your reply.
I'm not sure how to obtain the text information on the .AEP file. I might
be able to obtain it from the file converted from Cinema 4D. As far as I
know Cinema 4D has the best integration with After effects than any other
suite. Therefore it's export file would seem like the best template to pull
from. Hopefully I can come up with something. In the meantime
I must get back to my boradcast graphic duties.
Thanks again!!!!

I haven't tried it yet, but AE can work with Maya's camera. That is, if you can write out a Maya camera, AE should be able to use it.

So basically, 7feet's awesome script should work.

Does the script work only if you have Maya? Unfortunately I don't own Maya.
