Were's Support for BeOS?

I've been a loyal user of Moho for years and when are you going to support BeOS againn.

We have no plans to support BeOS.

Why, is porting that expensive?

With Zeta Neo's release and Haiku on the horizon there would appear to be a market.

What would it take for a BeOS release anyway?

Actually, porting would be difficult at this point. BeOS's design forces you to use multiple threads, whether you want to or not. That's fine if you're writing a BeOS application from scratch, but if you're porting an existing application from another platform, it leads to endless problems.

Multithreading is nice, but having it forced down your throat isn't. Several former Be engineers believe that now too. It should really be up to the individual developer. Here's a discussion about it if you're interested:

And it doesn't end at the porting - it also means another platform to support, all for the one or two people who buy a copy.

Anyway, all that is beside the point. Back in the day, BeOS had quite a bit of mindshare for such a small niche product. There were magazine articles, talk of bundling with various hardware manufacturers, serious interest from Apple, etc. Zeta and Haiku are now less than niche products. Plus, they're technologically stagnating - they're still at the state Be was at in what, 1999? If that? They may be fun for OS hobbyists, but no one is going to be using them for real production work. (OK, maybe you can name a few people who do, but not in any real numbers - not even enough for small developers like us.)

BeOS is, in any pratical sense, dead. We might as well develop an Atari or Amiga version of Moho.

A long time ago my Amiga 1200 (500 before that) left other systems in the dust, now it's just gathering dust in my closet :cry:

That's not true at all... Haiku is very alive and short before a R1 stable version...

The developers all busy coding not time for native apps right now, they work on their release expected soon...

If you are not interested in supporting Haiku, please give your Moho 2.5 source code to the Haiku devs to keep Moho alive...
Maybe we Haiku User can donate for the code...
