Ctrl-R preview render crash pro 9.2

Post by cig »

Hi all.

Since updating to AS pro 9.2, the ctrl-R preview has become unstable.
The image is rendered, and immediately a win access violation message appears.
The render window then clears of any granular layer, (not a clear screen, the actual viewport closes within the window), and windows xp closes AS down.

It happens approx 1 in 5 renders.

The 0xc0000005 error, is illegal access of memory, without XP's permission.

It's annoying, but at least the file recovery in AS works.

Thanks.

EDIT:

Looks like it could be a problem with the way the window focus is handled.
If I click on new vector layer, while the tooltip "new layer", is directly over the vector layer choice button, the FILE MENUi dropdown activates

Just an update.

Yep! One way of recreating the problem, is to try a ctrl-r render, when a tootip is displayed at the same time.
100% crash certainty, every time.

Famous last words... Tooltip is not causing crash 100%.
I updated mouse drivers and it's no better.

It looks like the image is not always being drawn in the render window from the correct position.
Is anyone else successfully using an Nvidia 7600 gs graphics card?

Thank you.

I've placed the problem in Smith Micro's tech support hands. They're really helpful.

Thanks anyway.

You might try disabling GPU acceleration in the preferences.

Thanks for the reply synthsin.

That was what I had hoped would solve it, so it was my first port of call.
Unfortunately; it made no difference. I'm not even sure my card supports the acceleration feature, because it does not seem to speed up render times.

If I find the cause, I will post a note, just in case someone else benefits.

Thanks again.

GPU acceleration does not speed up render times, only vector drawing. The 64 bit version of AS is the only improvement to render times.

Happy Christmas to all.
If you don't celebrate Christmas, then have a restful
holiday break.

I thought switching off autosave in preferences had solved the CTD issue, but unfortunately...no.

On 9.5 when a tooltip is displayed and I hit ctrl r it does not crash for me but it does put the render window behind the work window.
Sorry for bad animation

Hi.
Famous last words on my part. The Ctrl-R crash to desktop has returned with a vengeance. But the pausing to autosave is still gone.

Yes. I've noticed that the TOOLS palette, draws in front of the FILE menu, and hides the file menu options.
Only happens when the tool pallette is undocked.
The file menu etc, should always be set to "always draw on top", or whatever its called in Windows coding.
