I used to be able to import avi and jpegs to anime studio 8 pro ( my laptop is new using windows 7 ) but since loading the programme onto my new computer it shows both avi and jpegs as a picture of a white square with the top right corner folded in and insidse the square is an orange triangle, a green circle and a blue square....
can you tell me what is going on and how i can bring the avi and jpegs back into view? John :(

You will have to import the images to the new computer as well because AS remembers the location of the image but it does not actually save the image to the .anme file.

Once you import the images to the new computer you will have to open the image layer and go to the image tab, click on source image and browse your computer for the file and select it.

This is not the fix to this issue. It is not a link issue.

 I have been using anime studio since moho and know how to use the import, It is deeper than that.

To test this, I even created a new document on my Windows 7 PC and try to import a jpg. It will not take jpgs....png files work just fine.

My guess it is a codec issue.....

My laptop is windows 7 but does not have AS on it. If no one else comes up with a solution, I'll load AS to my laptop and see if I get the same results as you.

You're probably right about it being a codec problem. I use AS on my laptop, WIN 7, and have no problems with jpg. files.

I would try to download and re-install codec pack on my computer.

SOLVED:

Not sure about the technical reason for the solution, however, I found out what was the issue.

First of all, I tried experimenting by importing other jpgs from different sources. Some worked, but most failed. One common thing about all the jpgs that failed: I had minipulated them with photoshop. So I got to thinking, "maybe it is the way that I am saving the file." Sure enough, that was the problem.

When saving a jpg, there is an option called Format options. Your choices are Baseline, Baseline Optimized, and Progressive. I was using the Progressive option. When I changed it to one of the other two and saved the jpg, it would import fine into Anime Studio.

Bottom line:
This only affects a Windows 7 machine. XP would work fine with any format option. This only affected Anime Studio's use of jpgs....all other programs were not even bothered by the Format option.

Like I said, not too sure about the technical side of the solution (though I think I might have a good idea), however, works like a charm.

Hope this helps someone else out on the forum.
