Hello, everyone.
In Cartoon Saloon we are looking for Moho artists to join our team in My father's dragon.
I'm the rigged animation supervisor for this project and we are looking for creative riggers and animators.
There's a lot of exciting stuff to rig and animate!
Please check the requisites to apply in this link and write me if you have any question :)

So excited this movie is getting made. I still have my childhood copy of this book sitting on my desk!

For those working remotely: which version of Moho will be required?

Thanks for the question. We are using Moho Pro 12.5

What version are you using? Currently, we just couldn't make most of our rigs without v12 features.

I'm on 11.5 (and don't have any experience with smart bones).

I think you are missing one of the most powerful features of the software. Smart bones and meshes really transformed the software in something else, in my opinion.
We used them everywhere in Wolfwalkers and now in My father's dragon.

Of course, if it suits your style, nothing's wrong with smart bones. Mine is different - and my jobs are not funded in a way that I can spend too much time for elaborate rigging. It's just not feasable for a 1 or 3 min film. Doing characters for a feature or series, that would be worth the effort.

[EDIT] Just had a look: I could still buy v.12, but what about getting it upgraded to 12.5 at SM? Anybody did that recently (after v.13 came out)? I don't want to use v.13, doesn't sound good enough from what I've read here.

I'm not sure I would qualify, but just out of interest: the location for jobs listed is always Kilkenny (which makes sense). Does this mean no remote positions?

Cheers,
Marc

Can't you still download 12.5 from their servers? And if that's not possible I have the installation file somewhere (unless it's illegal, then I don't ;))

It's annoying that Smith Micro hasn't kept Moho 12.5 available. Moho 13 has some interesting new features, but it is not ready for production use.

IMO, Smith Micro should be bundling Moho 13 along with Moho 12.5. This way, new users are free to experiment with Moho 13, and be able to do actual production work with Moho 12.5. (Studios using Moho Pro that I'm aware of are still using 12.5.)

The latest 12.* updates are still available for download towards the bottom of the page at: https://my.smithmicro.com/moho-updates.html

SimplSam, great find! Thank you for sharing that link. :D

That said, I still feel Smith Micro should bundle a Moho Pro 12.5 license with Moho Pro 13. IMO, Moho Pro 12.5 is still the most stable and functional version of Moho available. Including the extra SN with Moho Pro 13 could make the purchase more appealing. Just a thought.

That would be them admitting that 13 is an inferior product and it would also be a confusing message to new users. What they really need to do is re-engage the community and address the issues found in 13, instead of providing radio silence for almost a year now.
