Board Contest

Would anyone be interested in doing something like this? We could pick a topic, a time limit, and a deadline. Organize everything in one thread here, and set up voting the same way. The reason I ask is because I feel like I'm not challenged to push myself out of my comfort zone, and I think a contest like this could help to do that.

Thoughts?

I don't think that will work.
that's impossible.

Sure it's possible, but it can be a lot of work. (And why should a newcomer to the forum be making pronouncements like that?) Yeah, MariaA, I'm talking to you...!
You'll get the best quality contest submissions if you can offer prizes (sad, but there it is). Have you contacted Smith Micro to see if they are willing to donate some software for a competition? And have you thought about judging issues? Leaving it up to forum members is a process that can be manipulated, while having a judging panel can be a lot of work if there are many entries.

I think it could be a good idea, but be prepared for a lot of work with little reward (kinda like life!).

One thing I did a few years back with Newtek, makers of Lightwave 3D, was run a Lip sync competition. I produced a voice track for them that was offered up as a free download and all animators were invited to create their own interpretation of the audio track. It worked a treat but I think Newtek offered a copy of Aurora as a prize. Maybe Smith Micro would be interested in doing something like this? If so I would be happy to produce the voice track for the competition.

cheers

Although I would like to see AS dedicated contests, perhaps Lumpy just didn`t know about 11 sec. contests?

There, as a winner, you`ll get "professional AnimationMentor eCritique" but what`s equally worth of participation is the comments on wip uploads which one would receive from other participants.
