how can i seperate one shape into two?

1.
how can i seperate one shape into two?
for example, a water drip outgrows another drip and falls to the ground.


2.
by contraries, how to combine two shape into one?
such as two water drip stick into one unit shape.

Use 2 layers. The first layer has one object, with a partial drip. The second layer has two objects, with a separate drip.

Switch between them using layer visibility keyframes, switch layers, or some other technique.
