What you can do is have the OPACITY for a layer show up on the imported image's timeline. Then, set a keyframe for 100% opacity where you want the image to start fading out, then a little later on in the timeline, set another keyframe for 0% opacity (by double-clicking on the imported image's name and changing the opacity setting to 0%). MOHO will smooth the opacity setting automatically, so that over time, it will fade out.

If you understood this, you can do the reverse for fading an image in (0% to 100% over time)

OR, MOHO has a SCRIPT dropdown menu under VISIBILITY called FADE. (Scripts, Visibility, Fade). You can chose to fade an image in or out.

The other thing to remember is that AS doesn't preview opacity of image layers. If you render the output or a frame, you will see the opacity you desire, but you cannot get "live feedback" of the opacity of a layer. (As far as I know, but I also put in a feature request some time ago for this).
