Bone strangeness

Post by Jkoseattle »

I'm having to re-learn bones after having to only do animations that do not require them for a long time. And things aren't going well. A couple things I'm noticing that all seem to be pointing to some root cause.

1. When I draw a line for sketch bones, the bones that result do not follow my line. They're sort of close, but not close enough to not be a PITA to fix
2. The New bone length default of 0.10 (0.10 whats??) is much too large for making my sketch bones. I changed it to 0.01 (0.01 whats??) and that fixes it, but something seems wrong
2. My pin bones are freaking huge.

So I thought maybe it has to do with the dimensions of the animation itself, but those are 1920x1080. My figure takes up a respectable amount of the screen. what am I missing?

Bone length and pin bone size are relative to the bone layer's scale, which is also affected by any parent layers.

Without seeing a file, my only guess on sketch bones not following your line would be layers (bone or parents) shifted in the Sequencer.

EDIT: Bone length of 1 is half the height of the project, if the layer/parent scales are all 1. So a bone length of 0.10 would be 1/20th the project height times the layer/parent combined scaling.

Thanks. I don't see how to attach a file to the BB.

There is no sequence yet, so that doesn't explain the sketch bone problem, and the bone layer is the top layer. I'd send the project file if I could.

To share a file, you'll need to upload to somewhere like filedropper, mediafire, dropbox, etc. and post the link they give you to the file here.

That looks like the normal accuracy for sketch bones. Just align them to the artwork after drawing them.
