how do I constrain a soft edge fill?

Post by cabbage0896 »

Nothin' major today folks, I was just wondering if there is a way to constrain say a soft edge fill to a portion of a fill area? For instance fill one half of a circle with a soft edge fill and the other half a solid fill all the way to the other edge. I tried splitting it but by dividing it in half then the soft edge follows the dividing line, just wonderin' any thoughts?

Well, that's the way to do it: create several shapes with different edge fills and stack them in a way they appear as one shape.

To add to what slowtiger said, just create the whole circle with soft edge and then a half circle shape without, so it covers that side of the soft edge.

Ok that will solve my issue with solid fills, I'm encountering a problem when using transparent fills. When you stack layers with transparent fills the color darkens with each successive layer, any thoughts? I'm trying to put a shadow under a vehicle ( e.g. soft edge where it hits the ground and solid edge along the car and transparent..) can I constrain the fill edge on one part of an area? just wonderin', maybe color points? that will be my next test. Thanks.

In that case I'd put all those shapes which make up the shadow into a group laser, add another layer with the shadow colour, and mask it with the shadow shapes. I can set that shadow colour layer to any transparency I want.
