Hi guys!
I have a delicate problem... I know the solution (MASK (jim carrey)), but I do not want to use it :P I want to find some natural solution of my problem, i was thinking that i found it but... let me show u...

there is a girl sitting on a tree over the creek
Image

i want to aninamate that that girl just moves legs up and down in the stream and some frame by frame animation on water, i was thinking omg, why dont use the 3D option that moho has?
Image

i was so hapy that I did not have to use masking... u see that girl has her legs under the water surface, but...
Image

...but in export i see that the water is not over her legs, its like the whole 3D thing is not working, please, guys, have u any idea how to make this idea working?

PS: without masking please! xD thanks ;)

Doesn't work without masking.
Layers cutting through each other in 3D are still rendered as a whole according to their order in layer palette.

first a short word on Moho's 3d - just as Slowtiger has said: the example in 23mwlcg.jpg clearly shows z separation, but the render (as you've found) will be in the order of the layer stack - probably the bg/tree, the (angled) water layer then the girl - This is because Moho (a 2d program) can't split a layer -- e.g. the water layer - so that the bits that are at a z "in front of" an intercepted layer (e.g. the girl) are rendered on top. Even if you have depth sort on, that sorts by z of (I think) layer origin (and you'll get the stack order as I've assumed you have).

So... if Moho can't split a layer - you have to. For example, as the girl's legs move visually upwards you can have them move things so that they're clear of a foreground water layer.

try this:

FG water - a copy by ref of water with the BG shape cleared
character
BG water - a copy by ref of water with the FG shape cleared

water - not visible - a vector layer with two shapes that share a line that divides fg from bg. If / as necessary you can animate the dividing line.

Even if it did work, it would look weird and flat as the feet are in a 2d plane that doesn't match the illusion of the drawing..
Manual is the only way.

Hey JanR90,

That's pretty neat!

One suggestion: you might add some splashes at the water penetration region? Nothing big, just a little bit around the legs.

Earlier this year I animated a character walking though water and I painted small splashes in an FBF layer using the Blob Brush. It was easy to do and it looked good.

This next tip is a little more advanced: in compositing, I masked off the legs under water and applied an animated fractal displacement. A second mask was applied to slightly fade the feet so they took on more of the 'deep' water color.

If you don't use a compositing program, you can probably do the displacement in Moho by rendering out the animation and then using a Smart Mesh to 'displace' the underwater region. This sort of thing really is easier to do in a comp package but it can be doable in Moho with a little more work.
