Hole without masking ?

Post by Crystal Noir »

Hi there,

I use Moho Debut 12 and I wonder how to simulate a hole without having the masking fonctions (an object fall in it for example).

Please apologize for my english.

Thank you !

split the "ground" into two layers and then drop the object between the layers.

like this: https://www.mediafire.com/file/zlp4m62y ... 0hole.moho

you're welcome. The general principle is: "design for animation" -- that is - don't just draw stuff, but think about how it's going to be part of an animation - split things up (or join them together; or duplicate them and hide the version you don't need at that time; or ... ) in ways that don't reflect real world objects in order to make the animation work the way you want. E.g. you have a window that you want to break - so you could have three versions of the window: the whole one; one with break-lines on it and one that is lots of separate pieces - like this https://youtu.be/FAc1rpfxAz8?t=9

Yes thank you, I should think about it, that's the same in development "think and design for our needs" but it's pretty difficult to think "animation" but it will come with time.

Sorry for my english...

Victor showed me a neat trick recently:

1. Make an enclosed path (like a big circle.)

2. Put a smaller enclosed path inside it (a smaller circle.)

3. Now, select both paths and make a single shape. You should wind up with a shape that has a hole in it (a donut.) No masking required.

There are some limitations to this technique but if you need it all to exist in a single layer and you don't want to take the time to construct the hole with segments, this is the way to go.
