How do I alternate the character's legs in front of his body

Hi guys! I'm trying to animate a dancer, but in the reference he passes his right leg in front of his left leg, and in the next step he does the opposite (the left leg in front of the right). I put each leg in a separate layer but, of course, the leg in the upper layer will always be in front. How can I alternate them?

if you put them into a group or bone layer you can enable 'animated layer order' on that parent layer. Then when dragging the sub layers (OFF FRAME 0) the ordering will be keyed in the parent so you can always move or delete the place where the order is changed.
