Could you clarify what you mean by make a screenshot? Did you do a render or a screen capture?

I'd suggest that before you import your image, set up the correct size in the project settings, ie., 32x42.

A screen shot of an AS window is no indication of pixel size - it scales according to how many panels you have open, etc.

Neeters suggestion is the only accurate measure. Does the 32x42 fit the project window?

Dimensions of bitmaps must be measured in pixels. Not inches, not centimeters, not werst.

An image 1920 px wide will be 1920 px wide when imported to AS. Set you AS project to HDTV dimension (1920 px wide) and you should see the imported image line up with the blue rectangle in the production window.

It doesn't matter whether your image has 72 dpi or 300 dpi - this is only an instruction to a printer to spread the same amount of pixels over a different area of paper. AS only spreads pixels 1:1 according to its project settings.
