It just depends on your style of drawing, but most styles require several views inside a switch layer.

Search for "head turn rig" for some more elaborate use of bones.

I have read repeatedly that turns are the holy grail of animation.

I find that I am increasingly simplifying my turns - with a combination of quicker transitions, which can mean a less real turn, and more use of point moving. Bones are brilliant but my rigs for turns seem to get way too complex.

My thought is: "Does it have to look real or does realistic work?"
