Swtich Layer : Masking - Strokes not included

Post by akgarner »

I'm designing a switch layer for eyes.

I have 2 eyes (pupils) that I want masked using the eye outline shape. This way I can reshape the eye outlines to close and it will simply hide the pupils, wherever they're looking. (note: the eye shape has a fill so the whole thing is the mask, not just the outline)

Problem is : If I mask using the switch layer (+add to mask) it ignores the stroke when I render. Works in the preview.

I've tried it on a non-switch (normal) layer and it works as expected.

Is this a bug? If so, let's get this fixed! This is like design 101 for an eye. How is everyone else getting around this??

Same problem

Post by SpaceBoy64 »

I discovered this as well. I sent a message to Smith Micro about it.

I don't know how to get around this other than to completely re-design my eyes to include the stroke as a shape instead of a stroke.

I would like all of my switch layers to be able to use interpolation.

This is the way it works. Masking only uses the underlying curve of the shape, not the borders of the stroke.

Well, as a work around, I copied the eye shapes layer and put a duplicate on top, without a white fill.

It means having to change two switch layers, but it worked.

It's supposed to work on the stroke as well, but a bug causes it to ignore the stroke on switch layers. If it's not in a nested layer, it works right.
