Keyframes are gone when switch is moved

Post by Jkoseattle »

I assume there's a darn good reason for this, but I'd like to understand it.

I created a switch layer animation with a whole lot of keyframes in it. It is a mouth moving around. I then added a bone group from the library to the project. This group is the rest of the face. It has a root bone that allows me to move it en masse, and I want my mouth switch to be controlled by the same root bone, so I dragged the mouth switch group into the bone group. When I do that, all the keyframes in the switch group disappear.

Why does moving a switch group into a bone group make the switch's keyframes disappear?

Have you had Moho running for a prolonged amount of time? Memory problems can accumulate when you haven't reopened Moho for a long time.

That's the only thing I can think of, otherwise I'd need to see the file or have steps to reproduce the problem.

No, it's not that. Actually, I copied the keyframes, moved the switch into the bone group, and then pasted them. That worked, but now my switch interpolation is gone. Giving up on the interpolation. Disappointing, looked good while it lasted.

I will post the project if I can figure out how to do so. There is another problem when I export the animation, a couple random layers look like they are at 50% opacity. I can only get this to appear when I export animation though. Weird. Project needs some attention I think. Should I just open a support ticket?

No, this sounds like user error. We can help you here if you can share the file. Just upload the file to somewhere like Dropbox or FileDropper, and post the link here (or PM it to someone you trust, if you don't want to share it publicly).

Is there any reason you have the main bone layer shifted in the sequencer?

I'm not seeing what you mean, but in other words, no.

See the green arrow on frame 162, on the timeline's frame number line, and the green bar on frame 161 in the sequencer? The layer's individual setup (zero) frame is actually at that green bar, so animation before that cannot be expected to work right, including switch interpolation. The sequencer is meant for retiming, not for animating in the layer's negative timeline.

Your "Uh" layer also has three more points than every other layer in the switch, so it will not be able to interpolate to or from any other layer. You may need to duplicate a layer to recreate the "Uh" layer without adding any points.

Thanks! I was probably at frame 162 when I imported the bone layer. Also, I must have inadvertently added points when editing the Uh layer.

I still see the gray eye and eyebrow though.

And why can't I manipulate the bones now?

I don't know what you mean by "gray eye and eyebrow", but your file has all the bone channels muted, so you won't see any bone animation. I assumed you did that while working on the lip-sync.

If I mute channels, I usually create a note layer so I remember to check that first if something seems amiss.

EDIT: Oh, your Eye R group layer has its opacity set to 15%. That's why those parts are gray.

Oh brother, sorry about that, I should have remembered. Also, I noticed that my Eye groups are all messed up. Embarrassing. Thank you again.

No problem. Glad you seem to have it sorted now.
