fullbody animation question

Post by bald_dude »

ok
i have been trying my hands at full body frame by frame animation for sometime now on flash

but i always seem to lose proportion of the character like it becomes wobly
and the face changes shape all the time (yes i do use the onion skin but still......)

how do i do it? is there any guide available on the net?

one more question where should i place the tablet ? plz help me with pics and or diagrams
my wrist starts to ache with my current position :x
sorry i dont have a pic to show u

basically i want to do character animation frame by frame in flash

like i want to draw each and everyframe!

and i have not done any course in basic arts! :(

I'm no guru, but here are some of the more obvious suggestions:

1) Keep It Simple. Before turning a whole body, try turning a head only. Visualise the head as a melon with a cucumber sticking out of it for a nose. Once you can turn that convincingly, try adding more detail, but still keeping the shapes very basic.

2) Do yourself a favour. If it's hard using a tablet, buy or make a simple light box, and draw your designs on paper. It's a lot easier to start like this, visualise what you want to do, and erase mistakes. Flip between drawings to test whether the movement works. Then you can transfer them to computer with a scanner.

3) Buy a "lay figure" -- a wooden mannequin with moveable parts. You can pose this, light it with a flashlight, and try manipulating it for a sequence of poses.

None of these things are expensive. Think about enrolling at a local college to learn drawing. And if you are looking for web-based tutorials, you could do worse than:

* Practice, draw, draw, draw and then draw some more. Animation is a craft and it takes time to learn.
* As you would place a paper to draw on, in front of you so you don't have to move your arm to much.

Absolutely, practice drawing. Go and sit on a bench and draw people going by. Draw as much as you can. Take a class. Otherwise the proportions will never come out right.

I place my tablet directly in front of the screen while drawing. Also, be sure to set it to proportional. It will probably eliminate some of the usable drawing surface, but if you draw a circle it will be a circle on the screen.

Also, draw your character doing the action simply first. Once you've got the proportions correct on a dummy figure, it's alot easier to go back and add details. You can also you guides (draw an arc for the action even on individual limbs, put your character in a duplicate layer underneath that you can refer back to for size, perspective lines if they're moving towards or away from camera, etc.).

Draw keyframes you want to work to. So there'll be a keyframe from step 2, keyframe between step 1 and step 2 and keyframe for step 2. Then do the "inbetweens" nessacary to get the look you want.

Pen tablets can be a bugger sometimes... try resting it on your lap, or have some where for you arm/wrist to lean on.

You can rotate the workspace in Moho for a better angle to draw in. alt+rightMB drag.

You can't rotate in Flash (that I know of anyway). Try Toon Boom.
