I'm pretty certain almost all of Cartoon Network's modern programming (short of Ed, Edd & Eddy) is done with Flash, as well as other related programs, such as Mirage or Shake for post-processing and clean-up.

There's some useful info on eye blinking in this thread . Of course, with animation, the sky is the limit as far as what you can do with it. As some of the posts above have mentioned, eye-based sight gags can really add to a scene. For example, a character who's eyes blink in unison will seem normal...

If you haven't tried Silo, you should give it a go. Silo 2 will be available for UB, but the beta is Windows only. I used Silo 1.2 under windows and really liked it's fast, clean workflow. It costs a lot less than Modo, but is also a very good modeler. Modo has more features and an awesome renderer...

While on the discussion of 3D packages, even though I currently use Carrara Studio as my primary software, I'm planning an eventual switch to Maxon's Cinema 4D Studio software, thanks mostly in part to Eovia's recent sell-out to DAZ. I've been pretty impressed by everything I've seen of their softwa...

This is a bit "off base", but see if you can hunt down a program called Canoma. Google for it. It was mainly meant to construct 3D scenes from photographs, and is now abandonware. I've used it for simple background scenes -- as long as the subject matter isn't organic, seems to do it very...

The drawing tools in Moho/Anime Studio are different from those you might find in programs like Adobe Illustrator, in that they are spline-based, rather than bezier curves. So they tend to operate more like tools common to many 3D applications, instead of your typical page layout application. Person...

Careful with the usb microphones, i've heard some horror stories about them. I've heard they tend to drop out signal due to the variable usb draw - ideally you should buy a proper mixer with phantom power to use those sort of mics. Hence the Alesis Multimix is a brilliant choice (plus you have plen...

I've actually been researching this for a while. Definitely important is to obtain a high-quality microphone that will capture only sounds near it and not ambient noises along with it. If you only need to obtain vocals from a single source, you might consider going with a Samson Audio C01U USB conde...

I've never really cared much for Blender's interface. (It's not very intuitive for inexperienced users.) But it definitely has plenty of useful features under the hood. Personally though, I'd just go buy a cheap copy of Eovia's Carrara Studio software. (Either v3 or v4 is good. I've seen v3 availabl...

The bevel effect is a bit obvious, but otherwise not too bad.

Personally, I'd try putting more effort into manually generating appropriate shading effects rather than depending on it to always be automated.

It's not really that complicated. Just create the base object with the outline disabled, then create two copies of it... one with a whole outline, and one with part of the outline hidden... both with their fill disabled. Then just put all into a layer group and enable/disable the visibility of the e...

I personally like the animation style, myself.

Animation Collective uses this style in almost all of their work, which adds a certain "human" quality to their work, which has been sadly lacking from most modern (and "better" animated) works that use flash.

Create the arms as individual layers separate from the character torso. This will allow you to place each body part where they need to be (in terms of z-sorting). The problem is that connected objects can only exist on one layer, and layers cannot intersect. (They run parallel to one another, like a...

Over The Hedge

While I'm sure most of you are probably already aware of Over the Hedge, and its recent release on DVD, you may not be aware of the extras that came with it in the DVD version. Among the extras are a brief walkthrough behind the scenes of the movie showing the process that went into its development,...

I see he's also worked on Danny Phantom, another show quickly gaining popularity in the Nicktoons universe. (From the same group that created the better know "Fairly Odd-Parents" series.) And I agree with the silhouette concept. A successful character design should almost always be recogni...
