There really is no other way than to work through the tutorial step by step (I hated this ...). At least you should discipline yourself to tackle only one problem at a time. Divide your project into separate tasks. Then you could train drawing and colouring, setting up body parts, setting up a skele...

By any means avoid the spinning disk - it completely destroys the illusion you have established so far. Since I just use any excuse to not start my actual work, I gave it a try myself this morning. Have a look, this is roughly what I had in mind: http://www.slowtiger.de/examples/happysuntest.mov The...

Yet another one which was done in 3D but, except for the rails, could have been done in AS as well. Have a look at those nice dirty textures, and the overall colour styling. I'll call this "enhanced cutout" from now on.

That sounds much better. But now I'm thinking I can get some cute car characters working strictly in AS.
I vaguely remember that there were some interesting car designs over at http://cartoonmodern.blogsome.com/ (I have the book, it's great), but I don't know for which name to search.

I have to make it a habit to save duplicate files as I work You should get used to it if you work with files for a living. I learned this the hard way years ago, as everyone does and you do now. But of course it is better strategy to fix those bugs in a program than to add some backup automatism (a...

No clips there, but a very interesting description, and I like and the style in the screenshots. Some fodder for anyone interested in a really different style, I think.

Walk cycles are an important part of my recent job. Finally I found a reasonably fast workflow for doing them, no matter from which side the character is seen. I'll sketch it here, in shorthand, assuming you're all familiar with AS. 1. Put your character into a group layer. 2. Create a line on the g...

Hm. Why try to go 3D if you already know that you can't compete with Pixar? Besides the point that I'm personally not really interested in any talking car movie: why not make it decidedly different? Have a good story, then animate it with model cars and stop-motion. You could attach different mouths...
