Thanks for the info.

Hehe. I agree. However this started out as just fooling around with no goal in mind. Now that my fooling around worked, I want to go some place with it. :)

Inserting extra emprty frames before the beginning?

So I've got two seconds of cool animation and I decided I want to put something else before the beginning of what I have. I need to slide the whole timeline to the right by 2 seconds to make room for a new 2 seconds of animation to come before what I have. Is there any way this can be done? I could ...

Deleting things that don't show on the timeline?

I was fooling around learning how to use AS and I got a bunch of fill color changes and layer opacity changes entered when I wasn't at frame 0 so they are scattered around in the timeline. I need to delete them because they keep changing things back to the wrong values I put in while experimenting. ...

A Newbie's view of Anime Studio

A couple days ago I downloaded AS and started playing around with it for the first time. Just for fun, I'm keeping a sort of informal blog of my progress and keeping notes on what I'm learning. For anyone who is interested in how a newbie might approach AS, you can follow my adventures at http://fiz...

Thanks Genete. That worked great! I guess it makes sense that if you lock a layer to a bone that any movement would need to be animated with points, not with the locked layer.

Odd newbie animation problem

I'm animating a "floating eyeball" as a practice exercise. The eyeball starts out facing to the right, then faces forward, then left, then back forward. I use the same kind of motions on the timeline for all the movements, but one of the motions doesn't work right. Here's what it looks lik...

The problem is that when I export the MOV it brings up the codec picker dialog but then crashes immediately before letting me pick a codec.

heyvern: Thanks for that good info. I tried all three methods just so I'd understand them.

slowtiger: That's cool. I built one myself just to be sure I understand how it works.

Thanks for those comments.

My project dimensions are 320 x 240, at 24 FPS.

You mentioned MPEG-4. I also have the problem that when I try to play any MP4 file from somebody else, it crashes QuickTime.

Really lame Newbie's first animation

OK, so it's not "Snow White", but hey, I only got Anime Studio yesterday. I rigged a simple stick figure character to learn how to work bones, and here is my very first animation. http://fiziwig.com/anim/stickman.swf I rendered it as an avi but it was over 10 MB even at half-size. When I t...

Newbie bone question: linking bones together?

Is it possible to have two bones tied together so that when one bone is moved the other also moves? Imagine a see-saw. When one side goes up the other side must go down. The two sides cannot be controlled by one bone because the pivot point is near the end of the bone. I need either to move the pivo...

As an absolute newbie I'd LOVE to watch your videos. Unfortunately, all three version crash my browser. In fact, they crash both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I'm on Win XP and I think I have the latest version of Quicktime. Any clues what might be wrong? (I seem to be able to watch other video wit...

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to save switch layers until I've mastered some of the more basic stuff. Then I'll come back to them.

A related problem: Somehow (I swear I didn't do it manually) several points got bound to a bone they don't belong bound to. How can I see what points are bound to a bone, and how can I un-bind points from a bone?

Thanks again,

Newbie switch layer + bones problem

I've only been using AS since yesterday, so I'm still a very new newbie. Here's my problem: I want a dragon to walk through a door, left to right, pause, and then turn his head (from profile) to face the camera. Since you only see the front half of the dragon that's all I drew. I have the dragon rig...
