So the hairs are just lines with line-width? I just assumed they were all closed vector shapes. There I go making an A$$ of myself by A$$uming. I wonder if rending out the hair and bringing back in as an image would resolve the aliasing? I only say this because AS seems to do some mild smoothing to ...

Regarding the character design, I like the subtle area of his muzzle, the dimensional look you gave the part where his nose meets his face. I suggest adding a little shadow underneath his mouth though, its reading a bit flat and would push the dimensionality like you did with the upper part of the m...

I like Fire Bender and would be interested in your method for animating the effect. For instance, was the fire a bunch of vectors in a switch layer, or one object and point animation...?

The preview within Anime does not always correctly display the masks. I always hit control+R to get a one frame render to know for sure what is going on. If you can figure out a under what circumstances it would be best to send a bug report to SM, including the test file. I was going to send this in...

Interesting, keep me informed on that please. Take a look at the third technique here: http://my.smithmicro.com/tutorials/2306.html Using a different bone group for each arm and legs would be a way to get a lot of flexibility and minimize cross influence of the body parts. However you would have to ...

I say cheat. That's right I said it, I'm not ashamed, CHEAT. Use the background image feature or just bring that image of Angelina Jolie into a layer and trace over it using the Add-Point tool. Don't use any other tool, other then Translation for moving points than the Add-Point tool for creating yo...

To do this "correctly" my next image will be in a "T" position with the arms and legs and "neck" a bit longer than needed so I can "compress" them with bone offset. This will give me more "image resolution" for stretching things. The legs will be &q...

Masking Anomalies

Just wanted to point out a few masking anomalies. Explanation in file. ASP6 file: http://www.joelcardinal.com/ASP/maskingAlpha.zip -NOTE- This is a reminder for myself and anyone else who may run across it. To use images as masks, you need to have a transparent image background. Open the png in the ...

Wink wink

Free screen capture software! I messed around a bit with it tonight, it kicks butt. Win and Lin only, sorry Mac.

But wait, there's more!

Add raster morphs to your animations, with more free software:

Overlay Tweaker

This isn't a big deal...yet. All I did was delete 3 lines from the Perspective Shadow script. If, like me, you love to put images in your vector shapes you know that it is time consuming to create different images for day/night/weird lighting scenes. Well, AS allows a layer to act as overlay, satura...

Gotcha, I was experimenting before I got your follow-up. My image setup is a crude simplification but it proved as you say there will be no division weirdness between the images. You are right. You need some fancy bone work to make image deformation work. So I look forward to seeing your rig setup. ...

The only addition was a second arm layer with animated layer order to test overlapping images for body parts. I don't understand that part. I'm guessing you made a complete duplicate of the vector bear--but it only has the arm (for overlapping) showing (the rest masked or alpha'd). But if that is t...

Come to think of it, any version of AS should be able to do this as long as you can do point animation on frames other than 0 and animate vector fills. I'm not sure what the limitations of v5 are. Even if v5 could do the above, the Blend Morph sliders sure do make life easy and you can have a bunch ...
