I think one of the lessons of this clip is that it's the little details which add so much of the interest and charm.

Little things mean a lot -- when there are so many of them, so smartly done.

Well, we desperately need better Adobe Illustrator import, but I think I could get behind SVG import/export instead, if it gave good results.

The modeling and animation looks terrific... you're a master of so many aspects of this medium... scripting, modeling, rigging... wow... ...except I sense that your file must have taken a hit in picture quality in the pipeline between vector model and rendered video. Seems blurry and slightly noisy....

It has style, humor, and good kinematics.

For heaven's sake, you ought to be selling these characters for at least $50, if they're reasonably: reliable, easy to use, and properly documented.

Why doesn't e-frontier hire you and Genete and Rasheed and some of our other maestros to do this up right?

It would be a stellar investment.

Yes, clearly, this is what we the users would like to see embedded in the bedrock of AS : Vern's technology, refined for simplicity and for application to general-purpose characters. I suppose I've been watching these developments from a unique perspective, though: does anyone else here have iClone?...

Do y'all think Divx may represent an alternative to these troublesome HD formats?

It offers enough compression, after all, to put HD-quality shorts on CD and DVD.

I just noticed that the company now lets you author Divx menus for interactive content....

Yeah, I liked the video too.

At the risk of repeating myself (because I said this about someone else's work), I think it shows a deep understanding of the medium.

Moreover, it's like somebody above just said: if you can turn something trivial into something fun, that's art.

I have some tips, but only IF you're working on your character outside of AS... using a bitmap prog like PhotoShop or PaintShopPro. Specifically, let's say that you have a bitmap rendering of your object in which the shading is expressed by a smooth gradient of light, and you want to "cel shade...

I agree.
A winning sense of humor, a real understanding of practical animation, and also a film-maker's understanding of the artistic side of the medium.
Best wishes!

Amazing.

I sure would like to see this turned into a practical general-purpose model that we could actually purchase and modify ourselves.

Rotoscoping workflow

Rasheed, thanks for the new information, and it's well written. You're talking about animating frame to frame as something difficult, though, and it seems to me that rotoscoping is precisely about getting the frames with a relatively low cost of effort. Here's how I envision the workflow: 1. Radical...

heyvern wrote: "The beauty of that sample comes from artistic talent. It could have been done with pencil on paper or with ink on cells or crayons on paper bags. AS is just the tool. Of course it is a great tool." This is quite true but it leaves out too much that the asker wants to unders...
