Re: StoryBoard helpful software

Yes! I love mind mapping programs. I use mind mapping tools to brainstorm and organize almost anything and everything I'm thinking about, like breaking down a story, flow-charting a script, designing a website, planning a birthday party, etc. Currently, I'm using a mind mapping tool to break down my...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

Oh, and I REALLY miss not having in CA the equivalent of Moho's Sketch Bones tool. I use this tool in Moho all the time to animate tails, hair, and rubber hose limbs. IMO, Sketch Bones is so much faster and more natural to work with than IK or FK for this type of animation. It's another reason I thi...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

I also discovered that the famous/infamous prefabricated movements can be edited using the 2D motion key editor (which has a sub-editor just for hands) and then saved as a custom movement. Yes, this aspect of CA is like using Motion Builder, a mocap editing program for 3D animation rigs. The pre-an...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

One thing I loved though was the active development of the product till I joined their forum and started posting unanswered questions. Yeah, I'm not nearly as active in their forums as I am here and, so far, I've had little-to-no interaction with their developers. I'm just lurking over there until ...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

Admittedly I looked at the first Beta April last year before it was officially released so things may have changed a lot since then. I think my biggest annoyance was having to swap parts in a pre rigged character. It was just too creatively claustrophobic :) I wasn't involved with the beta testing,...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

Just my opinion. I beta tested CA4 and found it quite difficult to rig a custom character having to rework a lot of pre-existing parts to make the default characters work. It would have been way easier to just do it from scratch in Moho. As far as the motions go they are limited and ok I guess. Plu...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

I have to confess, I'm becoming impressed with Cartoon Animator 4 Pipeline. It may be missing some of my favorite Moho features (Sketch Bones, Smart Bone Actions, vector drawing and point animation, graph editor,) but CA has many useful features I wish we had in Moho. The auto-rigging stuff works re...

Re: Cartoon Animator 4 (CT4)

Thanks for the clarifications. I'm glad to hear the Pro version of CA is also capable of rigging and animating original content. :)

Re: Two handed swing of a club

Yeah, I should do a video on naming convention and such. I have a system for naming layers, bones and actions which makes it so much easier to identify things, especially when I'm in a project with hundreds of layers, bones and Actions. Here's a short version of what I like to use in a rig/project: ...

Re: Two handed swing of a club

BTW, I updated the demo rig I posted this morning. I was a little sloppy with the bones naming and hands animation this morning so I took a minute at lunchtime to fix it. It's not functionally different and probably not noticeably better but it's there if you want it. :)

Re: Two handed swing of a club

Earlier I mentioned how you can't keyframe Independent Rotation. This is true but, if you really need this in your rig, there is a workaround solution: Create two sets of hands, one bound to a bone with IR, and another to a regular non-IR bone, and switch the visibility between the two hand versions...

Re: Two handed swing of a club

One fun use of target bones is to parent the target to the character's hips or the head bone. This way, your character can put its hands on the hips or shade its eyes while the body is moving around. I used this trick a lot in the interactive Puss-in-Book episode of Puss In Boots on Netflix. (You ca...

Re: Two handed swing of a club

Glad that helps! If you're new to the Target Bone constraint, you're gonna love it. This feature allows characters to perform complex animations more easily than before we got this feature in Moho. Tip: the 'standard' way to use a target bone is to select the bone you wish to target and then select ...

Re: Two handed swing of a club

A couple more things to consider: Make sure the bone animation path is set to visible. This is how I checked that the arc of the golf club looked right. If this was for an actual project, I might put an extra bone in the club to make it bend/curve. This would make the stroke look smoother and strong...

Re: Two handed swing of a club

Here's one way... https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ljvpg360y23z8k/golfer.gif?raw=1 Download Moho file: golfer.moho I created two target bones parented to the golf club bone. Then I keyframed the targeting of the lower arm bones (not the hands) to the corresponding golf club bone targets just before I star...
