Hey Rhoel, which Flash series did you work on? And why was it such a nightmare to use? Back in the uk, the studio I was with paid a guy to create animation in Flash commercially (as a cheap alternative to Animoand the like). We built a series of libraries such as walk cycles and blinks - we would e...

Regarding #2: Papagayo pays no attention to the sound amplitude whatsoever. It's not a matter of adjustment - this feature does not currently exist at all. It might be nice if it could do some amplitude-based alignment, but there will always be mistakes, so the priority to start with was to make it...

Part of my job is to write for a kids TV series (also edit others scripts). Best advice is to work out the story on paper first, before you start to write the script. Never start at scene one, and just see where it goes. Ut always makes for a bad film. Instead, work out the sequence of what has to h...

Suggestion for Papagayo 2.x

Papagayo is a dream to use - Fast and efficient. it does its job very well. However, two small changes would make it better. 1: Spacebar = play. My own thoughts are the useability would be better if the space bar was allocated to PLAY, and not for breaking down the sound as it is at present - in may...

Sound start Offset

From a Moho 5 thread. At the momnet, the sound always starts at frame 1. Problem is the action may come first then the lipsync later (at frame 50 for example). It would be good to have a Sound Start Offset, either in the Scene Preferences, or better, as a timeline with a slideable key ... this would...

Flash does not supprt bones. If you want a South Park look, you can attach your "cut outs" to the bones and animate those ... very fast, especially for series work. Flash is hopeless for series - been there for UK kids TV - total waste of time and resources..

I work in a studio with both 2D and 3D. As a rule of thumb, 2D is 4 times faster. The biggest reason is everything has to be modelled first, then textured and rigged, then animated. Every prop, incidental character, evry action resloved. In 2D, you can cheat - you don;t have to resolve physical prob...

Thanks for the help on this. Reseting the start frame proved the fastest way to check the lip sync is okay. Suggestion here for the programmers - having the offset in the Preferences just for the sounf start frame woul be ideal. Re{ Papagayo - Just had to breakdown the sound on a big recording. Disc...

Re-aligning sound files

I am animating scenes where the lip sync starts ( for example) 2 seconds into the scene, but my sound file starts 5 frames into the sound file. I could simply add 45 frames of blank to the sound file and import that. BUt since this is going to be a longer project and my animation timings may change,...

Papagayo won't run on Thai Window PC

I have Papagayo on a UK PV and it works like a dream. Tried to put it onto a PC running Thai Windoews and the program will not run at all. THe machine is configured so English is second language. Quicktime is also installed okay. This error is duplicated on another Thai PC. The error message is wxms...

Just a quick note in respect to the black letterboxed bars. Although the aspect ratio is 16:9, the image is stored on tape in 4:3 ... the 1024*576 PAL (D1) is anamorphically compressed to 720*576. The format is known as 16:9 FHA or Full Height Anamorphic. In reality, the "wide screen" is a...

Keyfrane timings - better or more options

At the present time, when you right click on a keyframe, there are half a dozen timing options, ease in/out, smooth etc. Yesterday I tried to do a bouncing ball test (standard animators exercise) and I was alarmed to discover i could not get the bounce timing effect I wanted. So I tried another test...

... In the layer properties, General tab, check the "Immune to camera movements" option for the layer/group that you wish to "link" to the camera movement.
Many thanks ... works a treat.

Linking a level or group to the camera - aka Bi-Pack

Is there a way of linking a level (or group) to the camera? Consider the following example. The camera is mounted on a Biplane as it flies towards a landscape. In front of us is the helmeted pilot, his scalf flapping in the slipstream. In traditional filmed animation, we would use a technique called...
