Fun

Fun!

Is you project such that you could paint right onto the sky, then position that behind the hard horizon line? It looks like you color ramp might be true vertical - so the whole sky won't look like it's panning, if you decide you need parallax.

drawing tool

Mikedog, you're so right when you're so right. There seems to be a philosophical issue going back to the Moho days. I mean the AS approach is completely honest and out in the open in it NOT being a frame by frame app. That said, it would be a lot easier to do more detailed work if there were a direc...

Slow response

Oh man, I post some questions on the Toon Boom forums, really basic questions about drawing in their apps. It's like I'm writing in Latin. No responses are forthcoming. For such a small market share, the AS world seems more (sorry, but I can't help it) animated.

bones

That's really nice. I wouldn't necessarily think that the action was roto-scoped. A great thing about AS is that we don't have to commit to a pile of drawings to test movement. We don't even have to draw layers. We can test with just the bones. The 'hut' background painting at your site is also real...

2010

Thank you for the help. I'm hoping 2010 will see me get busy on a stalled animated short. I'm animating at a frame rate of 24p. It looks, so far, like this will be the easiest conversion to both NTSC (3:2 pull down) and PAL. I may take you up on some suggestions for possible HDCAM festival reels. I ...

Great Info

DM, This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to have come up in this thread. Thank you. When I started preparing one of my own projects for festival/theatrical viewing, it felt like stepping into a void. As a small independent, I couldn't even get some better known post facilities to eve...

There was one thing that I didn't like this time around. That is, I think that the coloring of the owls legs make them blend in far too much with the background. I suggest a lighter color. It's hard to see the movements of the legs at times. Acochran, you're right. Unfortunately that didn't become ...

Neeters,

You popped up under my screen while I was typing. Yes, it's the same old tool set. I'm sure there are better virtual cameras out there, but for the money, After Effects is going to be hard to beat.

Thank you.

Anime Studio portion

I did all the character animation in Anime Studio Pro. The backgrounds were drawn with an actual pencil on natural finish paper, and colored in Photoshop. Compositing and and effects, like the owl's headlamp eyes and floor shadows, that was done in After Effects. Music (if you want to be flattering ...

Viewing and Burning Blue-ray

I got to watch some National Film Board of Canada animation on a blur-ray player that was matched to a HD Samsung monitor, and had HD audio through a Denon receiver and Polk speakers. The blue-ray deck used a 24p picture setting, which had compliance with the monitor and looked great. The thing that...

I'm really curious about the story line. It's much fun seeing work that's not on a well worn path.

Canadian Broadcasting won't let me stream their shows because I'm a south of the border ruffian, I suppose.

I think that "setup" mode should be an status not a frame. -G That's an interesting idea. I'm about to play with switch layers, to see how to create more detail in mid scene. That could end the problem of not always being able to see into the future correctly; trying to have everything al...
