Thanks Vern.
That was one of the first things I looked at. I guess I forgot to take my smart pill this morning. I just can't seem to wrap my head around it.
I guess I'll have to do some more hands-on experimenting to figure it all out.

Right you are. That's why I wanted to tie it to the rotating bone to get the sine/cosine scaling right. As it turns out, adding just a few key frames is good enough to fake true perspective rotation. My background includes programming for military flight training simulators, so I'm familiar with the...

I kind of figured that. Position must be relative to the parent bone, which explains everything. You're right, I can't use scripts in basic AS. I did find a work-around, however, by just manually tracking a bone to the tip of the rotating control bone at a few keyframes to get an acceptable simulati...

Why Doesn't This Work?
Here's a simple anme file with nothing but three bones. http://fiziwig.com/rot_test.anme My three bones are named "Main Bone", "Position Bone" and "Controlled Bone". I have set up Controlled Bone to get position control in the X direction from Position bone. When I sele...

That's going to be a tough character to animate as an image. Your best bet is to use the image as a reference layer and re-create the body parts as shapes in Anime Studio. Then you can rig the shapes with bones like I did in the three tutorials starting here: http://fiziwig.com/anim/index02.php --gary

Two More Newbie Tutorials
Simple masking in non-Pro Anime Studio: http://fiziwig.com/anim/index06.php This method avoids the need for group layers since that feature is not in the basic version of AS. It also allows gradient masks. Building a simple walk cycle: http://fiziwig.com/anim/index07.php Step-by-step (with anme file...

Thank you, I was afraid of that. It seems like if I only select ONE bone, then I should be able to copy only ONE angle. Then if I select ONE bone to paste, I should be able to paste ONE angle to that new bone. But I guess not. I suppose I could open the anme file in a text editor and copy/paste the ...

Copy/Paste SELECTED bone in timeline?
In the timeline there is a line for "Selected bone". What I'm trying to do is copy the angle of the selected bone and then paste that angle into a different bone later on. I'm trying to duplicate the second half of a walk cycle by applying the same angles to the opposite legs. It seem logi...

Yikes! Sounds awfully complicated. I only have basic, not Pro, so layer rotation is not an option. I'm going to dig into all the material on head rotation and see what's been done before. I seriously doubt that I will be able to improve on anything. I've got my hands full just learning all this stuf...

Head turn with switch layers
Here's a little experiment I just did playing with switch layer interpolation to do a head turn. (I'm sure this is not original, but hey, I discovered for myself! ) http://fiziwig.com/switch_turn.swf to view the animation http://fiziwig.com/switch_turn.anme to download the file. Of course the ...

Thank you for your kind remarks. Since I'm a newbie myself, I figured I'm in the right place to write a tutorial for newbies. I won't inadvertently make any assumptions, or assume knowledge beyond what I've covered in the tutorial, since what I've covered in the tutorial up till now is literally ALL...

Part five of my tutorial is up. Part four covered building rigged eyes for the character I'm creating, and Part Five covers switch layers by adding a switched mouth and an interpolated switched nose. As always, the complete anme files are given, and a preview animation of the results in on the page....

Are you using a single bone for the dress? Dont' know if this is of any use. I had to do a similar thing with first character (I'm a newbie) and I used two bones, one for the left edge of the dress (the skirt of a tunic in front view, actually), and another for the right edge. My character can do ka...
