Re: Best way to edit dials?
I'll answer my problem. It seems you can't edit dials if its rigged (face switch layer) to a head bone. You have to break the bone-layer connection for it to be editable. So, with this information, is it best to only do the body rig after all dials are in place? or does this just happen only from la...

Re: Switch layers or Smart dials?
I'm going through the same thing Macmonkey and at first it didnt work for me but it now does and very well too.
What you need to do is make your switch layers first and make sure the desired layer is active when you make the dial. You must make a dial for every switch layer you want to animate.

Best way to edit dials?
Hi all, Im trying to edit some dials, like a mouth on a center face switch layer but every time I go into the action panel, click on the dial, the time line is blue but as soon as I click on the transform points tool and select the mouth layer, it goes red and the points are hard to control even if ...

Re: Switch layers or Smart dials?
Hi all, First off, thanks for all your help. Im 2 weeks into AS and have a lot to learn and your help has been great for motivation and encouragement. I've been into animation for a few years, mostly 3dmax and a little maya, but that was a while ago. I sort of think along those terms and programs an...

Re: Switch layers or Smart dials?
I dont know.
I'll keep trying them but I dont understand if I can use them for the eyes and make it work then do the same for a mouth and it doesn't, leaves me wondering what is wrong.
What does it mean when you go the a dial's timeline and it is red?

Re: Switch layers or Smart dials?
I'll answer my own question.
Switch layers.
Smart dials are a great idea but I feel they need a lot of code work to make them behave properly. Perhaps in AS12.

Smart dials and switch layers
Hi all, I made a face with a center, left and right look. I have a dial for the eyes that works perfectly for each face. I had one for the mouth that worked great until I rigged the whole toon and now the left and right face mouth dial is attached to the right foot! WTF! Now when I try to make a dia...

Switch layers or Smart dials?
What's easier to control and have the best results. switch layers or dials?
I can imagine things like hand flips and such would be switch but what about mouth moves and eye blinks?

Re: Switch Layer Problem
Thanks for the advice but I tried everything you've said and it didnt work. I even deleted the whole rig, smart bones, basically everything and it would still offset any new switch layer( and only a switch layer ). I ended up deconstructing my character and then cut and paste everything into a new f...

Switch Layer Problem
Hi all,
Im having this issue with switch layers. I can have a hand drawn and boned but as soon as I make a switch folder and place the hand into it, it's pivot changes from the bone and its movement is way off from the arc.
Any suggestions why this is happening or how I can fix it?
