The crackling sound could be a volume issue, it's best to check the audio file peak before (on audacity for example) then once in AS don't set the volume over 1.

I suggest you to start your animation at frame 1. Frame 0 is intended as a setup frame. Then when making cycles (for example start 1 end 30) you have to make frame 1 and 30 the same (copy and paste) and cycle back to frame 2 with linear transition. There's no need to edit the preferences, just right...

I was thinking of something similare these days.
Everyone knows about 11 second monthly competitions, they provide an audio source and you have to make animation with it...would be cool to make an AS team and entry just for fun. What do you think?
