At the risk of getting off topic, I just have to respond to: "Citizen Kane... great epic film" I understand that a lot of people believe this; I've heard it all my life. Curiosity finally got the better of me last year and we screened it on DVD. Say whut??? Rent the documentary Visions of...

A couple of responses to observations posted above: (a) Some people don't understand why 2.35 : 1 ought to be treated as exotic, but another poster just pointed out that cel animation is seldom done in this format today. So perhaps this is a bit of a departure after all. Why not try composing for t...

Just some corrections: 1. It is not an unusual practice to shoot an 1:1.85 film with anamorphotic lenses to get a better image resolution: it's a gain of about 50% more vertical resolution. I just checked with a fellow I know in the ASC, a very accomplished DP. I was so curious by your suggestion I...

Super 35 must not be mixed with any aspect numbers. It is just another negative footage format and only us...

I don't know if the movie I'm referring to was 2.35 or not, but whatever it was, it was excessive for a 4:3 letterbox. 2.35 is as wide as it gets for movie distribution. I agree though that a smaller 4:3 TV will make your eyes hurt a bit. Even a small widescreen TV is an improvement. I'm just surpr...

I saw a movie which was presented in that extremely wide aspect ratio, one of the Alien movies, or a Terminator movie, I think. Viewing it on my 4:3 TV was painful. It was a thin ribbon of screen in the middle of a vast field of black. I'm someone who prefers widescreen presentation, but that was j...

Re: Q: how do I make my pictures look epic?

this site summarizes things a bit inaccurately Thanks for your corrections about cinematic aspect ratio. They have an authoritative ring to them, so I'll assume they're right. However, you go on to remark that PC speed should not affect the rendering of vectors at a given aspect ratio.. you referen...

Hi DK, just wanted to expand on the potential benefit of Genete's technique. Imagine trying to build a Snoopy model in 3d. It doesn't work. Not without breaking the design. But if you have a bone rig like Genete's that intelligently morphs points on a 2d plane, then the possbility of morphing Snoop...

Re: Q: how do I make my pictures look epic?

A: If your studio PC is big enough and fast enough to sling that many pixels, you use the Great Epic Aspect Ratio: 2.35 to 1. See the following indispensable reference: http://www.rexer.com/cine/oar.htm this might be a tad picky, but this site summarizes things a bit inaccurately. for starters, no ...

I am a total newbie, so please forgive this very basic question, but the term is thrown around a lot here... what is a "rig" ?? I'm also trying to find a basic tutorial on doing a head turn... the terminology in this thread is confusing me. Anyone know of a particular place to get a tutori...

I agree with the limitations and understand the point of a demo, I was merely correcting Hiddicop's post above that indicated the program was fully functioning except for output issues.

i forgot to add that the demo also did not let me render anything at all. in fact, the Render option was not even listed in the menus.

so the limitations are quite immense.

my demo i downloaded last week did not let you create bones, only work with files that already had them, such as the tutorial files. this made several tutorials unable to replicated.
