from your description it sounds like you use far too many layers unnecesserily if it's getting so messy you have to group stuff - why not consolidate shapes into a single layer ? you could take those 6 layers that make up a shirt pocket and just copy them into a single vector layer :P How did you k...

why would it be 10% slower (if you base your cycle on time rather than frame rate)? Well, at 30 fps, you can't have a footfall on frame 30. It does not work out mathematically when you want evenly spaced passing positions and ups and downs. So the footfall in my example occurs on frame 33. And 3 is...

I don't really need to organize the layers. I only want to. When I'm making art in Photoshop, if the number of layers becomes unwieldy, I'll create group layers and organize the layers. I'd like to do the same thing in ASP. I can , actually. The problem is, when I drag vector layers into a group lay...

I just tested your idea Genete, and a bone layer within a bone layer is pretty close to a solution. The problem, though, is that I would need 4 or so bone layers: one for the left arm, one for the right arm, etc., and that would slow down the animation process. For example, I would have to select th...

Vector Layers in a Group Layer in a Bone Layer won't move

In a bone layer, I have many vector layers bound to bones via the Bind Layer Tool tool. Is there a way for me to place a GROUP layer in the bone layer and move some of those vector layers into the group layer, and still have the bones manipulate those vector layers? I would love to organize my layer...

Thanks for chiming in, b15fliptop. After yesterday's post, I subjected myself to a marathon session of walk cycle animation at 30 fps. I feel much better about 30 fps now. I eventually created a decent-looking walk cycle, too. Yeh, I can tell the character's steps are 10% slower than they would be a...

It is now apparent to me that you 24-fps folks do not understand the horror of 30 frames per second. To you, 30 fps is merely another unexplored cave in Animation Mountain. "How troublesome could exploring it be?" you say, as you skip along the familiar tunnels of 24 fps. But those of us who have en...

You could always just convert it before putting it on a dvd. Almost every movie ever made was shot in 24 fps and they're out on dvd. I considered that. But I also heard that 30 fps looks a little better when played at high definition, which is the resolution I'm using. So, the problem of match the ...

if it's tragic and you loathe it, why do it? just wondering... I'd like to animate on 24 fps, which I enjoy, but since my plan is to output my cartoon on DVD, conventional wisdom says I should animate on 30 fps. Animating on 30 fps seems so weird. I hope I get used to it soon. I make the walks in a...

30 fps walk cycle

This is how I do 30 fps walk cycles: Frame 1: contact Frame 5: inbetween Frame 9: passing position Frame 13: inbetween (apex of stride) Frame 17: contact of opposite foot Frame 21: inbetween Frame 25: passing position Frame 29: inbetween (apex of stride) Frame 33: contact Tragically, I loathe animat...

Yeh, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I wonder if the guy, after seeing your animation, thought, "Crap! If I'd known he was going to make it look so good, I would've spent more time on it and made it funnier!"

Re: been a while

Your animation was much better than that ho-hum audio track deserved.

Regarding working for free, when you work for free, at least you know you aren't going to see any money. What really sucks is when you work on a project expecting to be paid, and you don't get jack squat.

Thanks! Works like a charm.

When I tried to figure out the button earlier, I must've tried something weird on my bone rig and perplexed myself. It all seems so obvious now.

I forgot about that nifty technique! I was using it for a while after you (I think it was you?) first made a post about it. Then I didn't animate for many months and forgot about it.

Thanks for the reminder. It's so useful, I am going to be using it a lot now. :)

Question about All in One Bone Tool

The All in One Bone Tool script is awesome. It saves me heaps of time animating. There is one button, however, that I haven't figured out. What does the "Key with every edit" button do? If its application is unusual, please give an example relating to making basic walk cycles. * * * Don't have the s...
