I like to disagree on different points. Hannah-Barbera didn't invent "on twos". The fact is that animation begins to look like continuous movement at about 15 frames per second - depending on the speed of the movement itself and the increments in position between one frame and the next. Doing 12 dra...

I second your move for better shortcuts on the Mac. But in the meantime you'll get along fine with a two button mouse with a scroll wheel. The wheel is for magnifying / reducing the view, the right button for moving the stage.

Back in the old days, when we used Director, we used a "stub projector" for a similar purpose. The projector was a simple Director file containing a bit of code saying "play movie start.dir which is somewhere near you". So it saved us the hassle to create a new projector for each and every new Direc...

I know of several companies in germany who purchased Animo licenses back in 1995, but don't know if they still use it.

Uhm, I beg to differ: Animo didn't drop the vector animation, but after, I believe, some marketing decisions this ability was moved into the special effects module. So it is still there (completely with output to .swf), but you have to buy the complete package to take advantage of it. I'd like to wo...

Hi switch, short answer: yes, it's possible to do dance animation in sync with the music in Moho. Long answer: In order to achieve the desired result, one has to take care of some details. Some things to consider are: 1. Output format. Anything video is quite OK, it will work nearly automatically. A...

It sounds strange to me. Do people really work in 60fps (US)/ 50fps (EU)? Of course every live action interlaced video format works like that, but in general it's not necessary to produce discreet artwork for each field/halfframe. At least I wouldn't bother to hand-animate in 60 fps, something compu...

Very interesting way to fix this problem, indeed. The canonical way to deal with it, as I know, include these 3 solutions: 1. Work in correct frame rate from the very beginning. OK, everybody has missed this option at least once, I suppose ... 2. Convert the frame rate of the finished Video-plus-sou...

Ah, now I see. Your problem isn't related to Moho in the first place. I suggest to take a ride to the next good library (or bookshop) and have a look into Richard Williams' "The animator's Survival Kit", starting at page 102, "Walks". Or you might grab a copy of Preston Blair's excellent "Cartoon An...

The link works, have seen it right now, it is a very lengthy demo without sound or any explanation, and it shows just the bone functionality as a plug-in for flash. A friend today pointed me to http://www.synfig.com/overview/ . Looks very ... uhm ... nice? I'll give it a try and download what they o...

Um, I'm not sure if I understand your problem correctly.

Do you mean "a character walks forward towards the spectator/camera"?
Or do you mean "just a simple walk forward of my character as seen from the side"?

uhm, my Dual 1,8 GHz Mac is fast enough to play HDTV files. But I need a bigger monitor to work really comfortably.

Producing in HD24p is a good idea if you plan to sell your work to anyone in the future - which is why it is my format of choice right now.

Reducing file size or how to get back the red dot

I'm working on a project in true cutout animation style and was desparately trying to reduce the file size of my Flash output files. Especially the little red dot in the layer menu which indicates that this layer can be handled as a Flash symbol was driving me crazy because it somehow vanished again...
