Just a guess without testing it: after animation, duplicate the shape in question, have it once with an outline and the gap which is needed, once with complete outline. Switch visibility as needed.

This discussion got more and more interesting. Since any restriction to filmmaking like "use only one set and tell all your story there" would be plain ridiculous, the original question is more than legitimate. My approach to AS/Moho was always to use it as just one tool in a whole production workfl...

Ah, the sweet innocence of youth .... we oldtimers still remember the times when all backgrounds had to go into After FX for compositing, so they had to be PICT files, and a PICT file can only be a mere 1000 px wide - but as long as memory allows. So we had to compose the pan vertically and later tu...

It will not work, in no vector program. Basically any vector application fills shapes like this: scan the image horizontally until you cross a line. Colour any pixel after the first line until you cross a second one. Repeat. This is called the "even-odd fill rule" and was, I believe, introduced with...

After FX is a nice program, but complete overkill if all you want to do is just splice some scenes together. iMovie is good enough for that and comes for free with the Mac, there are several free or cheap programs for windows as well. If your project gets bigger than, say, 50 scenes and one sound tr...

Thanx for this great link! I haven't seen that film before, it's excellent. Basically cutout animation in combination with model sets, I presume, but wow! is he doing impossible stuff with it! Anyone in for a try to create that subtle fog effects within AS? Notice how reduced the head turns are. The...

The best way to do this in AS is to use styles for the coloring. In a real production workflow, one would keep track of everything and plan this in advance. For colour models I'd recommend to write down the RGB values of all colours of your car neatly in a spreadsheet, one column for "day", one colu...

Well, it's done ... but I would rather call it a "proof of concept" than a finished head turn. If I were the director I wouldn't approve the scene unless the hair stops moving on its own ...

This is really nice stuff, and fun to watch. I'd recommend it to others who worry about head turns and stuff quite a lot: but you show that one can perfectly do without that.

Convincing head turns are among the most difficult tasks in animation, especially for a beginner. You could tackle down the problem if you split it into several smaller parts: Do the head turn in drawing on paper first. Do it often. Flip the drawings, or scan them in and let them run in sequence so ...

Even with the doubled price compared to the Lostmarble price I think AS is a damn cheap peace of useful software - and I'm not going to ever use any piece of the content which it is bunlded with right now.

If I checked correctly, efrontier isn't offering any free demo download of AS in the moment like Lostmarble did with Moho before. IMO this is a major marketing flaw. Last week at an animator's meeting in Berlin there were again several people interested in trying AS, of which I bet 50% would get hoo...

Font handling in Mac OS X is a nightmare, and users around the world have sworn whole volumes over it. Helper applications like suitcase may help a bit, but only to a certain extent. I don't do any font work in Moho, for this Flash is much better equipped. But I could test if Moho works with suitcas...

Well, in a way - and it's not as easy as flipping a switch. What I did was doing some animation with a character's bones, then made a copy of that file and erased all vector layers which were attached to that skeleton. Then I created new vector layers and attached them to the bones in frame 0. It wo...

I agree, but testing is something I really can't expect from a one-developer-business. I mean real testing now, on all the different platforms, with all the possible configurations ... that's a really time-consuming process. Hopeflly efrontier will spend the necessary amount of money into serious te...
