Aaaah! The animation was taken off YouTube before I got a chance to take a look. Is there anywhere else the video can still be viewed?

It uses neither flexible nor regional binding. All the points are manually bound, meaning I went through and hand selected which points should go to which bones.

animated, interactive, and generative

If anyone is at all interested, I've just completed redesigning my site. Among other things, you'll find a handful of animations done with Moho. I've also recently become obsessed with creating generative art, so that's the section I'm most excited about.

Good suggestion, Alan. I think you're right about the cane. Thanks.

Actually, the original plan was to animate in Flash, but after getting the characters illustrated and ready it became clear that Moho was a better choice. So I exported all the pieces from Flash as png files and reassembled them in Moho. The animation itself is pretty straightforward. There are a co...

Thanks for the comments. I've updated the movie. It's now slightly larger so more of the details will be visible.

The Popsicle Stick Puppet Show

Here's a little piece I just finished. All of the animation was done with Moho (not to be confused with Anime Studio).

Yes, the loss of IK is due to the fan bones. The fan bones aren't really necessary, they just give you some added control of the joint's shape. I often don't use the fan bones at all.

Thanks heyvern for filling in with all the explanations and tutorials. I generally don't visit the forum on weekends.

wizaerd,

The body consists of several shapes. It looks like a single shape because they all share some of the same points. There are shapes for the forearms, the biceps, and then the main body. It's necessary to have multiple shapes to make overlapping work.

Yes, it would work with more complex characters. However, I used manual point by point binding, so characters with a lot of points would be tedious to rig.

Joints

I spent some time today developing a good way of creating joints that bend and overlap correctly while still maintaining their shape. I thought I'd share the results with you all. Here's a swf preview: http://www.jordanleary.com/mohojoints.html And here's the Moho file: http://www.jordanleary.com/mo...

I'm with Rhoel on this one. "Anime Studio" seems targeted to hobbyists, not professionals. All the animators in our studio are confused and wondering what Moho has to do with anime. I think there's a risk of losing a large chunk of the professional market with a limiting name like that. Th...

I would prefer to have gap filling OFF by default. I'm much more likely to have small shapes that need crisp rendering than I am to have two shapes placed edge to edge.

I had the same problem with Moho slowing down after installing QT7. I went back to QT6 and it plays fine again.
